Skyrim to look the same Graphically on all Sytems

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 3:50 am

Whoever said 32bit run time? I was referring to 64bit. I'm talking about what the technology is now and where it's going. If they wanted to, they could pull it off. Again, it would SEVERELY limit who could play the game. Aside from us few who have top of the line gaming computers.

And that pretty much eliminates it as a development possibility doesn't it? At least for now...

It's like saying: "Hey man, did you just see that awesome Lambo? Why can't we all have that type of car?"

Difference is, Mr. Consumer here has four kids, and the guy driving that Lambo bought the car for its looks and speed. Each consumer buys based on what they do. In the same sense, each game runs based on what it has. Skyrim just won't be able to get that much graphical power.

Ah, now that's really something I can relate with. It's like the choice I had between getting Half-Life 2 or Crysis back in '07. One looked really cool and shiny. The other was actually fun to play.

I had an NVidia GeForce FX 5200, so I really had no choice back then. But after upgrading, I went and downloaded the demo for Crysis because I was curious, To me, it was as if they added a so-and-so shooter aspect to Terragen 2. There isn't much about Crysis to me other than the novelty of being able to run the damn thing.

I still play Half-Life 2 to this day, and that was back from the summer of 2007. Sure, mods increased the lifespan of the game, but it was the core gameplay/story experience that made it great. FakeFactory's Cinematic Mod solved the dated graphics over the years.

What happened to the time when you played a game just to enjoy it? You know, to play the game. The graphics are a significant improvement over Oblivion. Not only that, but the part of the game that matters is getting a massive overhaul. Like somebody else said, we should be thankful we're even getting a PC version given the state of the industry. We'll have to wait until the next generation of consoles before we get balls to the walls graphics for a TES game.

Just play the game, dudes. I frequently play on a 13" TV with my friends. And y'now what, we still have a damn good time.

Thankful is a bit of a strong word IMO. Bethesda isn't in this for the charity (and I doubt people buy the games for any reason other than they find them good games) Both sides obviously must be getting a good deal.

What happened is that games started to have less depth to them in order to make them more "accessible". You're talking as if we're expecting Morrowind-like depth here, but since this is a new Elder Scrolls game, we will for sure have nothing near that unfortunately.

This is a depressing attitude to take. In Oblivion, the lack of depth was almost passable, due to the amazing graphical improvements. Of course Skyrim looks better than Oblivion, it's been how many years? Imagine if it looked the same, the game will be a laughing stock! But it is simply not enough for it to look better than Oblivion. It's all relative.

It's a development possibility, but it's not how Bethesda is going to develop their game. They could make the graphics ridiculously overkill but as he said, they are trying to open the game up to a more broad spectrum of players and thus are trying to go for good graphics but not over the top graphics that would limit it to us with $4600 gaming rigs. It's the same principle of why WoW still works with soft, stylized graphics, because it opens them up to 12 million players.

I'd say that Skyrim, the way it looks in screenshots right now, is a damn good deal. If they've got the content to back it up then it'll be well worth the money, and I'm getting a good vibe from reading what little information there is. I may very easily be wrong, but it seems to me like the developers have learned from their mistakes, but are still sticking to their guns and moving the game forward. They can't please everyone, but they seem to be going in the right direction to please as many as possible.

I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it

No, that's not what I'm implying. But it's apparent to me that I'm getting too tired to argue well, so I'll just stop trying. To sum up my thoughts quickly: Personally, I'm happy about this, because it will benefit me. It's a selfish reason, but it's the truth.

IT WONT BENEFIT YOU IT WONT BENEFIT YOU IT WONT BENEFIT YOU

Sliders sliders slider slider sliders. If Valve could make its games run on windows 98 machines (only two years ago did they drop Windows 98 support from all their games), then BGS can optimize properly enough, and have enough slider options, to allow most systems to play it. If you don't have a good system, use the sliders. I don't understand what is so hard for people to understand about this.
