ESP not saving

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 5:32 am

A mod I downloaded has problems with a set of doors, so I went in and replaced the doors so they would work correctly. I saved the ESP to the data folder successfully but when I went to activate it, it's not there. I found it via the search command but its missing. I redid my changes with the CS twice so far but it still is not showing up in the folder. Any suggestions as to how I may be able to fix this? I'm the administrator and the OS is Windows 7.

You didn't install the game 'n' the CS to the default location, did you? Vista and Win 7 seem to have prrroblems with things being installed in default locations...

EDIT: AFAIK, the fix'd be to install them somewhere else.

So do you think I should uninstall CS and reinstall it to a new location, or is there a way to change it without reinstalling?

Hmm... I don't know... It couldn't be too much trouble to copy the data -folder somewhere safe and then paste it to the reinstalled and relocated Oblivion -folder, could it? Personally I try to avoid reinstalls as much as possible, but sometimes they're just necessary :P

Well I'll probably follow that. So far I have'nt done anything major with the CS and Oblivion is below 20 mods, so even if it totally goes wrong it wouldnt take more than 10 minutes to make both from scratch.

If you have Vista or Windows7, AND you installed your game in the default directory, then you will never see the mod in the data folder.

The CS is NOT part of the game so the OS sees it as a virus or trojan program trying to change Oblivion game files. This is not allowed by the OS.

Solution? Pick "one" of these:

1. Install your game to your Root C: drive. Like C:\Games\Oblivion\ or another drive entirely if you have one.
2. Remove the security from your OS and then you can join the XP computer ranks and become a Zombie computer. *Not recommended.
3. In your \Oblivion\Data\ folder, look at the top right. There should be a button called 'Compatibility Files'. Click that to find your mod. You can then copy it from there to your Data folder.
4. Run the CS in Administrator mode. Right-click on the icon and select, Run as Administrator.

===============

Now, if you want to install the Oblivion game somewhere else per #1 above without loosing your current mods you have installed, you can do this:

1. Move your existing \Program Files\Oblivion\ to your C root drive in a new folder that you need to create called C:\Games\ It should look like this after the move: C:\Games\Oblivion\
2. Rename the folder you just moved in step 1 to C:\Games\Oblivion00\
3. Uninstall the game. Check the option to keep your save game files. This will clear the registry and not remove any game folders because you moved them somewhere else.
3. Re-install the game to C:\Games\Oblivion\
4. After the reinstall is done, DELETE the just installed folder at C:\Games\Oblivion\
5. Rename the folder from step 2 above to C:\Games\Oblivion\

If done right, this will change the Registry to the new game folders location, plus keep everything you currently have in the protected folder location.

WARNING: If you are not computer saavy, then find someone who is to do the above for you. Or ask more questions.
