Oh, SD, why'd you go and do that?

I find all this talk of buffing yourself very inappropriate and can't imagine why this thread has been allowed to continue. :hubbahubba:

No the self buff and buff other are two seperate buttons.

On XBox-controls: Buff yourself = Pressing in the Left stick, buff others = X

Oh, I have my doubts about this. First of all, it takes time to self-revive. It's not instant, like the BC2 is. You can still be shot from any point in time during that time period, as well as while you're getting up. I'd definitely be ready to pump another magazine into an almost non-moving target with whatever is in my hands.

Anyways, if this helps promote teamplay, I'm for it.

Pretty much this. Having self improved buffs is just asking for problems when you have players that will ignore their teammates just to gives themselves an extra edge, and I'm pretty sure anyone here is tired of that kind of attitude that has become popular over this past few years thanks to the propagation of games like COD.

You're not dependent on others to play, you're just dependent on others if you want the edge given through teamwork.

They want players to want to be around other players. If you want to be off on your own then you've got to make due with those limitations. They're letting you go it alone, to break off from the pack and chase an objective, but they want you to want to come back to the pack at some point.

Sure it's a "forced" team dynamic, but it may be neccesary to keep the team on task when it's full of inexperienced randoms.

Probably so if you're in a group of people and you want to buff yourself it won't mess up as much. Like in gears when you want to revive someone and you pick up ammo instead.

If they really wanted to make people act selfless, there should be a passive ability that when ever you buff a teammate, you get the 1st level buff yourself for free. Then everyone will be out buffing their friends.

That would be two people buffed for the pip price of one though.

Correct. The idea being that if you have a good team it wont matter as another engineer would be giving you a better buff. It be an incentive to buff your team instead of yourself. Since all teams have access to it, it should be too overpowering, especially since it is only the level 1 buff for you.

I mean I don't know the number, its possible it could completely break the game, but I don't think so.

Do we know how long buffs last? Is there a time limit, or does it just disappear on death, or both?

With only eight people on a team if two engineers have that ability then that'd be 4 people buffed for the price of two. Also as an engineer wouldn't buff engineers as much thinking that they might have that ability. It would be cool if when you buff someone and he buffs you back relatively quickly you could gain a bonus of pips or something. it could be called "wing man"

Well you would still buff other engineers, theoretically, because they could only have the level 1 buff, where you would give them the level 3 buff. This way you would always be contributing to the team, you would almost never use a pip for a weak buff on yourself. Plus if you had 2 engineers, buffing 4 people each, they would use 4 pips. Again, since they are only getting the level 1 buff my way, they should still buff the other engineer. But by the time they use all those pips, then get back into the action, I would have to think they would have recharge enough to hardly make that 1 extra pip they saved be a huge difference.(again I could be wrong as I've only watched gameplay videos, not actually played).

I don't think it would be that overpowering to have engineers get the cheap buff for free, again mainly because the other team would be doing the same. Depending on the recharge rate, I don't think the difference of that 1 pip is going to be a huge difference. Again I could be wrong. I just see the first thing many engineers doing as soon as they get in game(assuming buffs last until you die), is pressing left thumbstick.

Now its possible the numbers could not support this. I think it could have been done to make it support this. However it is way too late in the cycle for something like this anyway. I just think if you want someone to do something, rewarding them with the same buff is a great way to do it.

occasionally a self buff is required too.

Hit the gym you puny woman boy man... :sb:

lol...

I'm sure its just for teamwork purposes. I can understand the need to be a buffed lone wolf sometimes but I really think SP wants us to conetrate on being a unit for this game.

i believe this is just taking the principle of "weapons unlocked later are not stronger than those available in the beginning, they are only better suited for certain, more specific gamestyles" further, into the abilities.
true balance you know, nothing unlocked later is better, it just has different stats. providing a better advantage but putting a disadvantage in it only serves to make every char more unique. there won't BE a better build, there won't BE a better ability.
bliss...
