Some character building help

Post » Mon May 16, 2011 10:59 pm

Hi everyone!

Some of you may know that my main character is a Healer named Helena Aurelie, who, amongst other things, won't do any form of direct damage to anything that's alive (undead are fair game, dead shouldn't walk!). This is a very obvious weakness and for a very specific reason. I find hard characters to play more fun.

Now, I've come to a point in her story where I need to create another character. This time a male Dunmer, born under the sign of The Steed.

He's got no desire to live, at all. So he plunges into battle with reckless abandon. Think of a guy who's got nothing to live for and wants to take as many people down with him as possible? Yeah, that's this guy. Until he meets my dear Helena...but that's for another day.

I can't for the life of me figure out any weaknesses for him. He's good with a blade and light armour, and is a decent shot with a bow (hunting). Other than that, his skills are up in the air. I know he'll lean towards magic later, but that's my own preference and something I push all my characters towards.

Can anyone think of a way to give him an obvious, potentially life threatening, weakness?

If he didnt want to live he wouldnt use restoration or alchemy to heal himself.

An Atronach who knows no Alchemy at all would have problems healing himself (except for finding potions). Perfect complement for you main character, but he might get a bit too dependent on her.

Oh no, he'll be a bit of an alchemist. He needs to be. For the vast majority of his life, he's been away from towns and cities. Now he hates them. Especially Cyrodiil cities. Cheydinhal is kind of okay, as it reminds him of towns back in Morrowind, but other than that...

I suppose no restoration would be interesting.

Edit: Ghastley, the thought came to me as well. But when I asked him what his birthsign was, he said The Steed. I'm afraid I can't change it.
He was born on the 7th of Midyear 3E410

No healing Alchemy.

That's a mighty fine idea. Perhaps (for a while at least) he'll use no self-helping alchemy whatsoever. Just using poisons.

Well that's one thing, thanks :D

- No healing Alchemy.

Ideally, as Ghastley mentioned, he'll be complementing Helena (in my mind, sadly. Wish I had a pc and could mod). So he's the one doing the damage, and she's the one managing the crowd and saving his life.

If he has no desire to live, why bother with any kind of armor?

You know what might be a better route for Helen. Just use summons and convalescense spells.

A good point, Dragatus, and a question I can't answer in a suitable way. Perhaps then, he will forsake armour all together.

Zak, she does. This is merely for my own pleasure and enjoyment. He's a character that played a significant part in Helena's life before Oblivion, and I feel that if the two were to meet again, he'd play a very large part in her life again.

My oppinion of this type of character is that he may not have a desire to live but self preservasion is naturally built into almost all people.I think he can and should use alchemy for poisons and even healing among other things.A weakness could be that he is careless and doesn't mind jumping right into action without being the list bit prepared for a battle.

I once played an Assassin class character that was similar. He made it to level 33 before a bad decision to attack Castle Kvhach with very few potions ended his life.He never used magick but only relied on potions and poisons and a back up dagger.
He had many a close call before his final demise .But up until the end that natural built in self preservasion allways managed to keep him alive,if not just barely.

How about ignoring endurance?

My character never touches the stuff. At level 20 her endurance is still 30, so her little red bar measures 117. That is a serious weakness.
