Two neat looking Frostcrag mods

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 10:58 am

I found two mods that look like good add-ons for Frostcrag. One is for Midas Magic (available here: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15951 ) and the other is called Frostcrag Reborn (available here: http://www.frostcragreborn.com/downloads.html ). Is there a way to determine ahead of time if these mods can co-exist or if the are not compatible?

The author of the Midas Lab one says that they are compatible right there in the description. But he also says its his first mod and he doesn't know if it will work or not so there's that  . Personally, I wouldn't go for the Midas Lab one, especially if it is your first time playing through the mod, takes the fun out of visiting Midas' shop. But to each their own...

I hadn't DL'ed the Midas mod yet. That'll teach me not to bark too soon. Thanks for the info and the tip about ruining the Midas shop.

For what it's worth, I can not recommend Frostcrag Reborn enough if you're going to pick a Frostcrag mod. In addition to the intial "quest" to get the place and equip it, there are two more quests that are very challenging. The second of these is huge and has great benefits. But it's not just that... he did a great job with the entire thing. Architecture, design, atmosphere, etc... It is very well thought out and tons of fun. But, it also has a sticky point or two when installing, especially if you already had Frostcrag running in an existing save (Read te README very thoroughly). For that reason alone, I probably wouldn't try running these two Frostcrag mods side-by-side. Further, Indefiance's Frostcrag has a nice Cobl lab (if you run Cobl)... no, it's not Midas' equipment, but it is a very nice alchemy lab with plenty of Cobl storage for your ingredients, potions and scrolls.

So there's my $0.02. I love Midas' shop, and I love Frostcrag Reborn. I am currently running both in my build. But I don't know that jamming them together is going to get you the results you desire. YMMV.

Thanks for the opinion. I think I will go with Frostcrag Reborn and skip the Midas addition for now.

Just a little more follow-up on this...

Your thread inspired me to (try to) finish the first of those 2 quests I mentioned last night. And another mod that came in really handy was http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16282. The Readme for Frostcrag Reborn tells you you're going to need torches (or _some_ form of light), but this little addition made a huge diffference in how I negotiated this first... um... plunge... (not wanting to give too much away, you know). Anyway, Drop Lit Torches OBSE is a nice compliment to this part of the Frostcrag Reborn mod.

Also, I think I saw that you were asking about this in another thread, but http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10819 is a nice compliment to Frostcrag Reborn a well. You've probably seen this already in the discussion and the screenshots, but just in case you haven't, there is a another benefit you get upon completion of one of the quests that will give your Akatosh mount more purpose. Now, different from the other mods previously mentioned, I am not running Akatosh Mounts at this time, but it's not because I had any trouble with it. It just doesn't really fit with my current character, you know? I ran it in several past builds and it always worked well for me, even in the planes of Oblivion and in SI.

So there's another $0.02. Hope this is helpful.
