Continuing Fallout Series?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 8:33 am

there was already a poll on this, and half the people dont get the "post apocalyptic" feel from new vegas, there isn't much contrast, its mostly just a desert, so even if a hundred nuclear bombs dropped on the desert, its still gonna just be desert, its kinda like using only white paint against a white background.

Yeah so Half the people on an internet forum poll arn't happy with it and the other half that are happy don't count?

No offence, but you clearly want to pretend that Fallout 1 and 2 never existed. You have a large original fan-base, and you must cater to them to.

This, I agree. There is still a very large original fan base. People are still Modding Fallout and Fallout 2! Fans have made an online Fallout Mod based using the originals, still in Beta. Many people play it.

Fallout and Fallout 2 are still being sold, modded and played. They exist and Bethesda knows this, chances are its why they let Obsidian make New Vegas the away Obsidian wanted.

No offence, but Bethesda and Obsidian have basicaly shown that the Fanbase from F1 and F2 can be defacto ignored and they will still sell 4million copys within a few days of launch.

But New Vegas was closer to the originals and it sold more than F03, which was not

??!?!!?!?!??!!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

NEW VEGAS SOLD MORE THAN FO3!!!!!

AND NONE OF THOSE OTHER GAMES ARE FALLOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

well FO4 is is prob gonna sell more than new vegas, i never said new vegas was a lousy game, but its definately not a good fallout game, bethesda set the mark for what a fallout game should be, exploration, tons of dungeons, lots of combat, fun enemies to fight, and not too realistic or believable cause that just makes games boring, so lets be happy bethesda is making the next fallout game. :celebration:

NV is closer to the originals only in the sence that some of the people who made 1-2 worked on it, and was set within a few hundred miles of some of the original games locations, and had Marcus

It does not have a true node based map
non static content that I could see apart from some random glitches
and lets be real, when you can start out from Goodsprings and can clearly see Repcons dome, Primm, and New Vegas from the same spot, well frankly it feels a bit small. frankly I feel like im running around my old home town of Sedalia where I could walk from my Grandmothers house to Safeway and on to the library, all while hearing the cars at the racetrack.

(that said I still think its a great game, just that if they keep the same "Size" map, maybee nextime they should not try to force the scale as mutch, but meh)

Bethesda in no way set the bar in what a Fallout game is. Fallout did that, the original Fallout, all those things you stated are TES qualities, that is not what a Fallout game should be, FNV is more of a Fallout game than FO3 by miles, by miles. FO3=/= Fallout, Fallout=Fallout.

No offence, but I played fallout 2 back when it came out.
then I played Fallout 1
I thought 1 was better than 2.

I also played unreal

between thoes three games, the best was Fallout 1 then Unreal then Fallout 2.

to me Fallout 3 and NV are just not Fallout 1 and 2, but then to be honest I dont think anything else can be.

Yeah but you have to remember that to him Fallout 3 is the only True Fallout while the others, even Fallout aka Fallout One are not Fallout games. Messed up and stupid I know but thats his opinion and nothing anyone says will change that. To him Fallout 3 is the only Fallout.

I agree with you but he never will. Reasons: Its "old and turned based." Its not full of Explosions! and was not made by Bethesda. Also Fallout 3 is the only True Fallout in his Opinion (which he has every right to have.)

Goddammit, you're both right! Please stop bickering so that I can stop blaspheming, because you are essentially making either incarnation of the series into just that - an idol, which the other defames by association.

with two developers making fallout games its kinda the best of both worlds, obsidian can make their version of fallout games and bethesda can make their style of game, so everyone should be happy how things are working out.

Shdowhuntt, just ignore it...He's one guy who's clueless of what a Fallout game is. To him, it's Oblivion with a huge reskin mod, let him believe that.

Dude, get a freaking clue *what* a Fallout game is. We are not dismissing the exploration factor but you can't just sweep the original concept off the table and add new, irrelevant crap just to make it more appealing to peps like you. God what's up with you wanting to change the game into a mindless Diablout?

You can't change the NHL games into a bowling simulator for example.

Anyway, thank god that Bethesda isn't *THAT* clueless about the series(yep, I have still little faith in them) and is probably capable of adding more depth into the game.
If they were doing it your style, there would be no dialogue, story at all and it would be just another mindless first-person diablo clone with postapo background catered to the sandbox hungry crowd. <_<

So on that basis an excellent Fallout game also has.....

An unbalanced level system (Thats broken when the appropriately named Broken steel is installed)

Bullet sponge enemies.

A tiny main quest that can be completed in a very short time.

Gaping plot holes.

And absolutely no choice in story or character progression, other than to be railroaded into one scenario and to make a god like master-of-all-trades.

None of the features you listed, other than maybe exploration to some degree, were major features of the (Still bought and played and enjoyed) originals. In fact, lots of combat and enemies to fight are more features of mindless shooters.

(Forgive me if this has been mentioned, but as i am sick of this pointless fighting, i thought i would change the subject. There is a chance Fallout 3 and Fallout have a chance to be in the Smithsonian American Art Museum exhibit of "The Art of Video Games" come next year, think of it, a chance of two of the games we talk about so much being in a famous museum, that is cool. I know i know, you would prefer something else for the one, but New Vegas just was not picked, so we should be happy that Fallout 3 at least will have a chance of being displayed. The Exhibit will be in 2012 according to the website, Think of it, the games we love displayed in museums around the country or in the greatest museum in the country, in DC.)

So, Mad Max 2 and 3 aren't post-apocalyptic? A Boy and His Dog isn't post-apocalyptic? It's mostly just a desert. What about Book of Eli?

Google "wasteland", what do you get? Mostly deserts, right?

Dlc like the other guy said, can't wait thought NV is getting pretty boring for me since Ive dont mostly everything.

i agree new vegas gets boring fast, but as far as another fallout game, bethesda owns the franchise, pete hines said they bought it to work on it and develop it and he also said.."we intend to bring fallout to the forefront of rpg's in a major way" so them making one game isn't exactly fullfilling either of those comments, they only made one fallout game so far, i expect more than one fallout game from bethesda, this is just the beginning. there will prob be several bethesda made fallout games at least before its said and done.

Let's face it - this has basically just turned into yet another "my favorite Fallout game is better than your favorite Fallout game" debate. I don't see this going anywhere better than that, so it's probably better off locked.
