"Active blocking"?

from the dutch article...

what could this mean?

maybe you cannot hold block to gaurentee a block.. maybe you have to time the block button with an enemy attack?

no more holding block to gaurentee safety perhaps.

I think it’s more likely to mean you don’t just get a “block” bonus from having a shield equipped, you have to actually be “blocking” (using the shield in your hand) at the time the enemy is swinging.

Maybe deft timing like you’re talking about could still be rewarded somehow?

Read the Gi article. If you hold block you do a "shove" style move and knock an opponent back. To block you have to time the press of the button as the opponent does their attack.

It might be something like in Deadly Reflex (I *think* it was that mod, anyway), where the strength of the block lowers the longer you hold a block up. Therefore, you'd need to time it right to do the most powerful block you can. Just holding up your shield for an hour until you get hit will be a really weak block.

Yup, I'm pretty sure that's what it meant.

When I read "active blocking" I assumed it to simply mean "manual blocking", as in, you block attacks by pressing the block button like in Oblivion, rather than being like Morrowind where you have a chance to automatically block attacks if you have a shield equipped. But after reading this thread, I guess what it actually means may be that you need to actually time your blocks, rather than having it be like Oblivion where you can just hold your shield in front of you and wait for your enemy to hit it, which would kind of make sense. If you just stand there holding your shield out in melee, it wouldn't make sense for enemies to just hit it, they'd likely try to hit you somewhere the shield doesn't cover.
