TES On-Line

human beings are often unpredicable and capable of anything. We are the most destructive species on the planet. No other creature on this planet kills for fun

(Note: This is NOT a discussion on multiplayer, which theres already a thread for, but if the mods feel that it’s too close I’ll understand.)

I totally agree with TES being a single player game, but that doesn’t mean that the community shouldn’t be able to interact at all. Frankly in 2011 that seams a little out of touch, and as a console user (with no access to mods), it would offer even more ways for the communities to stay involved with the game.

Here are a few of my ideas that will never be implemented, and that would all be completely separate from the rest of the game.

An on-line Pub: (Yeah the pub thing again, but this is deferent.) Take your character on-line to a community hub. Check out people’s characters, swap stories/spells, or just play cards. Maybe even do a little trading? No combat though.

An Arena: Think you built the most bad-ass character ever? Take’em on-line and test your might. Everyone would be equipped with the same gear (like in Oblivion) so even if some one cheats themselves a god-man, there’s nothing at stake but bragging rights. Plus you could check their stats in advance.

A “dungeon master”: Community members could devise custom quests, scavenger hunts, or whatever else, and see who can complete them first. Or…? The possibilities are endless.

Official Mods/dlc: Let community members suggest, vote for, and download new features and dlc.

Let us get involved!

Got some hate or ideas? Let’s hear them.

1. Online pub is already here: It's called the forums and you can post pictures of your characters and http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1161691-what-did-your-character-do-today-3/

2. The arena has been suggested before-If it doesn't take up development time and resources from the developer that could be put somehwere else (ie money is needed to fund the servers this would be on) then I'm all for it. Unfortunately I don't think they could pull it off without having to divert some attention away from the actual game. I'd sacrifice the online arena for more in game content in a heartbeat.

3. Dungeon master-It's called user made mods. Unfortunately you aren't going to see them on the consoles unless Sony and Microsoft budge on the issue. They are awfully touchy about the subject and it's not really up to Bethesda whether to add the feature. If you're on PC however, you're good to go.

4. Already done online. Talk about the DLC here on the forums and purchase the ones you like. Hell you can even post a poll here to see what people like and don't like.

want to know something worse?
i heard a women actually killed her child because the child was disturbing the mother while she was on farmville

I know a guy who punched his four year old son in the face because he interrupted him playing WOW. The mom is just as addicted to the game. The boy is now living with his grandparents. So, yeah, not hard to believe. I personally know these people so I know this kind of stuff goes on. ....Sad. :shakehead:

Here's a personal and completely subjective reason why I object to any form of online/multi player/ whatever in TES. It starts with the best intentions, and you hear comments such as ' the Elder scrolls online community will be so much mature than the die n00bz attitude of the FPS communities,' but it ends with tea-bagging in Thamriel, and that would not only offend my sensibilities, it would be like being kicked in the soul.

Exactly. I wouldn't mind any sort of multiplayer interaction if it was possible to completely ignore it and play the game as if it were a pure single player.

By the way about the "hermits" bit, if you think that interacting anonymously with others in a game is being social you are deluding yourself. I do enough of that (socal interaction) in real life, so I value my privacy when I want to play TES. The last thing I need is Goldshire Talk in Skyrim.

Let's try to keep it remotely on the topic of multiplay for TES, not online gaming in general.

What?!?!?!?

also what about that guy that died while playing WOW

What about the people who die when they OD on heroin?

WoW is a game, it does not and can not actually be addicting, not physically at least. That guy died because he had serious underlying issues, the game he played is in no way to blame. The woman who killed her child because she distruved her could've been playing anything, she'd still be [censored] insane.

i actually like the pub idea

Me too. Not that i would use it but the idea isn't bad.

I have always said that if TES should have any kind of multiplayer (which it shouldn't) an online arena would be the best thing since i imagine it wouldn't affect the single player part nearly as negatively as co-op or an MMO would. But your pub idea is pretty damn good too.

Allow me to introduce you to the Orca whale. They kill for fun by tossing their food (A seal) around in the air and ripping it apart in a game of tug-of-war. And often times don't even bother eating it.

Humans are only the most destructive because we have tools made specifically for destruction. A gift and curse of expanded intelligence.

I would prefer absolutely zero multiplayer type things. But to each their own.

Thats cool. You would not have too use it.

are you talk about like WOW?

Oh god no. There would be no co-op play at all. I dont want that at all. Im only talking about a small on-line hub that would be completely separate from the game itself.

Sounds like multiplayer to me, but...

See above.

These ideas have potential. They need polish, but they sound good. Seeing as these would be completely optional features the crotchety hermits could just avoid them like the plague while people who appreciate a little interaction would have the option to, I'd say that if these ideas were polished up and implemented well, I'd welcome them with open arms.

EDIT: I managed to mispell "polish" twice, awesome...

Yeah, this is absolutely “beta” stuff.

With forums such as this, and TES Nexus, aren't these needs mostly being met, just without the gameplay and graphics, which would make it online multiplayer.

Well in a way thats kinda the point. Not everyone wants hang out on a forum but a lot of people would be into an approachable interactive way to communicate and stay involved with other players. Not to mention you can do everything that you can do in TES with a pin and paper, but which is more fun?

Its not about multiplayer, it’s about interaction. You would stll be very much on your own in Skyrim, but in between sessions you could select the "hub" on your start screen, take a break and unwind in the pub, check out other players, and swap some fish stories. How would that not be cool?

We all like the game. We all like the forum. Why would a interactive, optional why to mix the two be such a sin?

I can't see how it would be a mix of the two. Firstly, it would not be in game, since you said it will be separate and secondly, forum discussions/topics are substantialy different to what you describe. Just consider that stuff on the forum remains writen for one, and offer the chance for much more introspection, anolysis and recording of ideas, not to mention they are properly moderated. Anyway, the way I understand it, your "online pub" idea aims to give you a place to chill and share stories and experiences in a game-like enviropment. Out of curiosity, how many players/avatars would be allowed at one time in the pub? How would you manage overcrowded/empty pub instances? How would you deal with the issue of possible abuse/harassment? (not saying its undoable, just curious about what you have in mind)

The arena thing is different however and really, it would take a lot of work ballancing characters, creating a matchmaking system etc etc. I'd rather see those resources used to improve the single player.

NO, NO, NO and NO.

I don't want one single aspect of anything multiplayer in this game. That's not what this game is about. I don't need any of those things, that what the message boards are for.

It wouldn’t be a “forum” just people, with all of their enduring and alarming complexities.

I wouldn’t deal with any of those things because Im not a professional game designer, but I what I imagine would be just a hub. People would be subject to the same rules (or lack there of) that they are with any on-line game, and the “pub” would likely be populated with other players in your general area. XBL offers a lot of this sort of thing, but with its own avatars. This would only be a small add on. The tech is already well tested, and the recourses to implement very small.

There would be no balancing of characters. Such is life.

The point is not to change the TES experience at all, just to give players, especially console players, a fun way to stay involved with each other and the game. If they wanted too.
