TES4Edit registry-reading issue

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 2:52 am

Just upgraded to Windows 7, copied my old Oblivion folder across and everything's working fine there. However, TES4Edit gives the following error:

Fatal: Could not open registry key: \SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\

A web search pulled up a few keys which I added, the following is exported from my current registry (C:\bin\Oblivion\ is correct) --

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks][HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion]"Installed Path"="C:\\bin\\Oblivion\\"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\1.00.0000][HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion - Construction Set][HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion - Construction Set\1.00.0000]

So... what's missing? :P

You just copied the folder over? I'd back that up and install the game, then patch it, then delete the new folder and put the old one back in its place.

Right, but that takes a long time and requires I find my CDs. Also, Oblivion is running flawlessly. :)

if 64 bit Win7 place that installed path definition here(also don't use those double dashes..it'd be like this X:\Oblivion\Data):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion

Hey, thanks... I was looking for Oblivion in the registry and I couldn't find it, but that's where it is. So, confirming that on 64-bit Windows 7, it's under the Wow6432Node thingie.
