Should I buy Fallout?

I'll say it. Fallout 3 had a way better story than New Vegas. But that's my opinion. I don't care for the illusion of choice when the only difference is faction X is giving me the same quest that faction Y would have.

New Vegas was good, but it in no way made Fallout 3 look "unprofessional"

Bethesda fans would like Fallout 3 more than NV, NV pleases Fallout fans better than FO3. NV has a lot of Fallout 2 elements in there, making you feel like you really are playing a sequel to the Fallout series. Fallout 3 lost all that, it's like Bethesda made a clear line between them and Interplay/BIS. FO3 did however capture the atmosphere of Fallout 1, in fact better than NV.

The trilogy is a great buy and you get FO1, FO2, and tactics, got mine at target I think for approx. $20. But if you don't like isometric turn based games you probably wont like, gameplay can be a bit slow. Upside is they are great games, good story, and fairly challenging.

Most of the hardcoe fans will say you must play the old games to truly appreciate the series, but honestly if you're not a fan of the franchise, I wouldn't bother. IMO, play FNV and FO3, then if your fallout fix is not satisfied, then buy the trilogy.

Fallout 1, 2, 3, New Vegas and Tactics are all great game. The first being my favourite RPG of all time. I love the combat and especially when close combat.

New Vegas doesn't feel like Fallout.

Have you played Fallout 1 or 2?

That comment made my mind go blank for a second, too.

I'm adding a well deserved  in there as well, considering Fallout is Fallout 1 and Fallout 3 is Fallout 3. Not the opposite.

He has a point though, no Fallout, including New Vegas, has felt quite as Fallout-y as Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, a.k.a THE Fallout game, just like Shadowkey is THE Elder Scrolls game and Invisible War is THE Deus Ex game.

:shifty:

(I do trolling good?)

Fallout: POS, the very best of the series indeed. A game with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-Xs1tm-9-U. What's not to hate? And that woman speaking in the video? She should have been the voice of Fallout, not Ron Perlman.

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Buy every single fallout game, including FO3 and FNV.

I could pretty much recommend any Fallout game that isn't followed by Brotherhood or Tactics, though the second is more a preference than being a pile. You can get the 3 original games, Fallout,Fallout2, and the afore mentioned tactics in a package for about 20 bucks. If you like traditional, turn-based rpg's you can't go wrong. Great writing and simply just a fun game, though the graphics leave a lot to be desired. As for Fallout 3, take the formula, dumb down the writing, modernize the combat, which could be a good or a bad thing depending woh you ask, though since your new you'll probably appreciate the change. And then there's New Vegas, keep the modern combat, update just about everything, re-insert writing lost in the third game and you now have what I feel is the strongest title in the series. Hope that helps.

FO3 GOTY is a great choice but I would recommend FO NV even with it's bugs since they'll most likeyly be fixed by patches (both official and unoffical)
