Having trouble adding hair from a mod...

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 2:12 pm

So I downloaded a hair mod, and it didn't have a (esp. are they called?) so the description said that I would need to manually add with the construction set.
So I opened the CS, went character>hair>new.
Then I added a new Form editor ID, made them playable, male and female and named it. Then I clicked ok and saved the esp.
However, when I opened Oblivion, the hairs aren't appearing in the game.
Am I missing a link here?
Thanks in advance :)

Hmm, it sounds like you still need to add the hairstyle as a selectable option for each race.

If you don't know how, here's the deal: With the Hair (Character > Hair) window open and the Race (Character > Race) window open, click on the Body Data tab, now click on the hairstyle you made in the Hair window list, and drag it into the Hairstyles list on the Body Data tab. Repeat this process for every hairstyle and every race you wish to give them to.

I hope that does the trick. :)

Thanks greenwarden, they seem to be working fine now :)
However, now Ren's Beauty pack isn't working and I'm not sure why.
It's added on the list of mods, and I'm not sure why they would clash...
Edit: After removing all other hair mods except Ren's, it seems to work fine. Looks like they're clashing after all.

Basically when two cosmetic mods alter the same thing, only the last mod loaded can "win". Sounds like Ren's Beauty Pack is loading after the mod you just tweaked, and it's reverting the changes you made to the vanilla races. You can get around this limitation in a few ways, and the one that seems to be used the most around here is the Bashed Patch function of Wrye Bash. You can also use a cosmetic mod that merges a lot of races and hairstyles, including Ren's, so they are all contained in one .esp.

I recommend you read http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/775917-compatibility-and-you/. It was a huge help to me when I started modding my game. :)

Ok, I'm downloading Wyre Bash now, so hopefully I can them to work in harmony :)
Thanks for all the help greenwarden, and that Compatibility and you topic looks like it's going to come in handy later.
I'll post back with results :)

Problem, neither Rens Beauty Pack or the other hair mods are mergeable. Is there some way to make them mergeable?

Race mods are typically not merge-able via Wrye Bash, afaik. "Merging" mods is something you can do with the Construction Set, or TES4Edit. As I stated previously, the Bashed Patch function of Wrye Bash is what many people use to create compatibility between cosmetic mods (among its many other functions)- this means something different from merging. It's very important that you read the accompanying documentation included with Wrye Bash for information about creating a Bashed Patch.

Any further questions about Wrye Bash should be posted in http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1119710-relz-wrye-bash-thread-51/ :)

Ok, I've 'merged' the mods in the construction set and they seem to be working fine. Thanks greenwarden, if I ever learn how to mod myself, I'll remember to add you in the special thanks credits

No problem- and just take comfort in the knowledge that it only gets easier from here (well, in my opinion it does). :D
