Thunderstruck sound replacer

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:25 pm

Hey guys and girls. I just made a really simple sound replacer that replaces the thunder sounds in Morrowind. Although it's only four sounds, alot of thought and proccessing went into those four sounds, so I hope you won't bash me too hard for making such a small mod.

It contains real thunder recordings from The Freesound Project. See comparison video:

Any thoughts or comments?

Looks very nice. I especially like how there's a delay between the lightning flash and the thunder strike. Laws of physics seem to have found their way into Morrowind. :goodjob:

I too concur that the delay between the flash and the sound is more realistic and I was thinking about exactly that while listening to the original sounds. While I dont hear much difference between using one group of sounds over another, I will use this simply for the delay alone.

Like it that it lasts longer, but not so much that all of them do. Anyway, I do like it, nice job on the sounds!

After watching the video the sounds are a big improvement over the originals. Nice work. :goodjob:

very well done. have you ever given thought to making all the wooden door in the game use different sounds for opening and closing? like i kinda figure a shack door would rattle. an imperial door thud home. and redoran doors close with a boom, as the door would hit solid against the jambs to keep out the ash. thought i would throw out that idea. looking foward to yet more improved sounds from you. :celebration: :foodndrink:

Does delay between lightning and thunder vary or is it a fixed value?

Thanks for the interest guys, but there's no coding involved in this mod. It simply replaces four sounds and the delay is manually inserted into the sounds, so four different fixed values depending on whether it sounds close or far away. Even though I know how to code HTML, CSS, basic ASM and extremely basic C++ and have done somewhat of text based modification to games and other stuff, TES Construction Set makes NO sense to me. I couldn't even find out how to browse the contents of an .esp! :pinch:
If someone else handles the code, I could probably supply the sounds.

I guess I could go watch some YT videos on how to use TES Construction Set, but.... it's a rather big slice for me to eat right now and I really just don't like the layout/setup of it.

I am in exactly the same situation. QFT +100. :geek:
