Custom Music

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:26 pm

I've recently started putting in my own music files to the Morrowind music folder, and it's quite nice to have other stuff play. Do you use custom music? If so, what songs do you use?

I use some of the Bourne Supremacy soundtrack for both battle and explore as well as other various game/movie songs.

I associate ruins (especially dwermar ruins) with Dr. Dre because the first time I was playing Tribunal I listened to Dr. Dre since then I started listening to it all the time while playing. Sometimes, if I am listening to something else then decide to play morrowind I will leave it on.

I've always listened to the soundtrack, but lately I've been wanting to put some Glenn Miller into the battle music lolol. Next time I start playing, probably.

I voted for media player because when I played Morrowind, it was on the xbox so I had to use the xbox player to listen to custom music. That goes for Oblivion as well.

I just love listening to Lord of the Rings music when playing Oblivion. I tired it for Morrowind as well, and it suits it good too.

I do sometimes use custom music in the game, usually its whatever soundtracks from other things I have handy that I think would fit with the game, mostly I stick to soundtracks because the music I listen to that doesn't come from any work of fiction would usually conflict with the feel of Morrowind. I add my custom music directly to the game's music folder so it can change when the game music would, and because I figure that running a media player while playing the game might slow it down.

I most of the time listen to the default music. Sometimes I do prefer some electro house when I am on a killing spree in the wilderness.

I listen to a couple of Lord of the rings Soundtrack ones, but mostly it's Medwyn Goodall tracks - he does some fantastic celtic-style music that is just perfect for Morrowind :twirl:

Been playing some heavy metal from windows media player while playing Morrowind lately.
Sounds kinda screwy when I'm just exploring, but makes the big battles freaking epic.

Though, to be fair, I've been listening to heavy metal in general lately.

I don't use custom music in-game, but that's because my stereo system sounds much better than my PC speakers, so it's easier to play music there then add it to my computer, then add it to my game.

I do enjoy the in-game music, and usually listen to it as it helps add immersion and nostalgia. But if I want to listen to my music, I'll turn on the stereo.

I mostly use the regular music. However, i think i may put some ambient in there, and im thinking about trying out some Boards of Canada for the exploration music.

I'm going to add some of the mp3's from Avatar: Last Airbender, Lord of the Rings movie soundtrack, Myst 3 Exile, and Heroes of Might and Magic 3 (nice old game, soundtrack never released, mp3's from game folder.)

I used to associate various songs with Morrowind back when I first started playing it and was marvelling in its majesty and novelty. I don't have that feeling anymore since I know Morrowind inside and out, and those songs I used to attribute to various experienced have been lost.

But as to the real topic, I voted the "media player" option, but honestly, it's a mix of all three, depending on my mood.

I put in a few snippets from Dead Can Dance, and the soundtrack to Conan the Barbarian. Both are made for games like Morrowind.

I also have a sound effects CD with many of those great battle music sounds, like in jidai-geki or anime movies. The occasional taiko drum, followed by the sound of rasp. Things like that.

I use it, mostly instrumental or near-instrumental music, mostly darker songs, with a little dreamy touch.

have a zeus thingy I listen to, also some mods adds some music that I have keeped regardless if I still use the original mods anymore, and yes,it is put into the explore folder so it gets changed on occasions, delirium have some soothing tunes I use in between to mention some, find that electronical music of the "softer" kind works best for me and mw.

Custom music can create some pretty (unintentionally) funny moments, I find...

I was asking for Training from a member of the House Redoran, and got the standard answer "Faction members only, dark elf." At which point the first line of one of my custom songs kicked in - "I'm through with standin' in line to clubs I never get in..." from 'Rockstar' by Nickleback!

Me too - that and sort of celtic-y ones. My current favourite mix is:

For Explore:
Maiden's Kiss (Medwyn Goodall)
Everybody Hurts, Instrumental Version (London Philharmonic Orchestra)
Stairway to Heaven, Gregorian Chant Version (Masters of Chant - sounds crazy but it actually works!)
Fireflies (Owl City)
Try Your Best (Kaiser Chiefs)
'Til The End of Time (Delerium)
Marian (Clannad)

For Battle:
Battles (Clannad)
Back Into Hell (Meat Loaf)
My Kind of Guy (Kaiser Chiefs)
Nice Guys Finish Last (Green Day)
