Half-Vampire

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 9:02 am

In the tes universe, i find Vampires fascinating creatures, the way they are designed and their story in this universe is par to none, from the story of their creation to the story of their evolution.

I've read every piece of text, be it fan-made or taken from the TES universe, but i have never (as far as i remember) come across half-Vampire, I've tried searching the forums and the imperial library, but to no avail.

So i ask for any information or links regarding the subject, more specifically i would like to learn about the Dunmer and Nord breeds of Half-Vampires, but any and all will suffice if it can be found :) thank you

While I have decent knowledge of TES games, I don't recall ever seeing anything about vampire half breeds.

But http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dhampir about half vampires. Go nuts.

Par to none? Erm.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Origin_of_the_Gray_Prince, innit? He's pretty much normal, other than a bit of pallor which might not even be from his part-vampire-ness.

He's an exception though, if I remember rightly, since the journal-thing implies vampires aren't known to conceive..

I also have a vague recollection of this as well... And I'm pretty sure it wasn't fanfic...

My RP has a half vampire Nord, (Vott) and Serosi although the latter goes a bit more beyond a "half vampire."

I personally also find the mixture interesting because the character is sort of in a purgatory. I read some interesting articles on children of mixed racial parentage who have to deal with some similar things in their social life.

Serosi is Immortalbloods very well concieved mind child, and you may find him in the fanfiction section, in the rp's Siege of sentinel or The sanctuary Keeper, i recomend going to the last page of the sanctuary keeper where you may find a full character sheet for serosi.

Vampire (n)

A reanimated corpse that is believed to rise from the grave at night to svck the blood of sleeping people.

Err, how could you be a "half"-Vampire? Half the urge to feed? Immune to sunlight. Please explain your question

Please read the article I linked on Dhampirs, which is the "technical" term for half vampire.

Hoping you will forgive the correction: there is a series of fantasy books (recently published) that revolves around a 'Dhampir' - and that is likely the basis for the UESP wikki. Other than that, forty years ago (or ten years ago) there was not a word about the Dhampirs - the early Vampire books and films all had the transmission of the disease by bite as standard. So I suspect that article is sourced on a modern fantasy series that is itself based on the traditional Victorian-English invention of a Vampire.

Yes, the word Vampire was always thought to be the invention of a Victorian Englishman (the name Bram Stoker seems to ring a bell) who travelled around Europe and was based on the truth of Vlad the Impaler who had a habit of stringing people up on wagon wheels set on poles - I'm sure you've seen the artwork of Hieronymous Bosch.

Vlad wiped out an Ottoman/Turkish invasion of hundreds of thousands with his tens of thousands taking prisoners and putting them on the wheels all along the roads as a warning in the ancient Roman manner - and then did the same to many of his Dacian/Transilvanian peasants when they revolted in his absence. Natch the peasantry decided they did not like him too much and made up a lot of tales about his 'unnatural need for blood' - but then of course they were revolting.

Just in case you have the idea that the Ottomans were a nice eco-friendly lot please read up on Jannisaries = kidnapped children reared as elite Ottoman soldiers with no knowledge of their parents or home ... so (unless the Jannisaries are a more modern phenomenon) those peasants revolted against the man who saved them from certain death and their children from what they might have felt was worse. Byzantium and Dacia served as the bulwarks of Europe following the partition and collapse of the Roman Empire and saved the rest of Europe from even worse than the Western Europeans did to themselves.

In-game as has been said Lore is sparse - rumour as much as fact - though there is that 'book' about cross-breeding between the races - not sure if it mentions Vampires specifically?

It doesn't. And I'm fairly certain Agronak is the only half-vampire EVER to appear in the Elder Scrolls series, book or otherwise.

The only thing about Nord vampires I've ever read was in http://www.imperial-library.info/obbooks/immortal_blood.shtml. Actually, that's the only book I've ever seen about vampires beyond the boundaries of the province in which the game took place, but it seems to be an exposition on the Vampires of Cyrodil more than anything else.

I do hope they adopt this style in whatever next game they make. Rumor has it it's going to be in Skyrim, so I hope they manage to create vampires that can reach through lake ice without breaking it.

I thought so too, but reading the actual thing, it states that it has its origin in Balkan folklore. And seeing as the Balkans are quite mad, and the folklore encompasses http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire_pumpkins_and_watermelons, I can buy that.

:biglaugh:  - are these the gypsies so famous for their hatred of outsiders and love of other peoples' cash and practical jokes?

Note the date:
"The only known reference in scholarship is Tatomir Vukanović's account of his journeys in Serbia from 1933 to 1948. He wrote several years later in the Journal of the Gypsy Lore Society:"
This came long after Bram Stoker - near half a century later? Basically this guy was either desperate to publish - anything; unscrupulous in his desire to acquire research funding; a fool; or in need of a close encounter with an electric socket. Whatever, but great link :goodjob:
