I'm also running Adblock+ and NoScript Firefox addons, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I downloaded some stuff this morning, didn't encounter the IGN thing.
It's not related to Adblock and NoScript, since I use that and I just got the IGN signup page trying t download your UFR3.
Since there's a risk that this thead will be locked or removed, I'm going to get this in now. I have very relevant experiece in this area, since some years ago I took over the hosting of a large archive of user-created content. There was considerable fear in the community (creators and users) that it would turn into a pay-to-access archive. Most importantly, there were clearly serious copyright issues involved for content creators who had uploaded stuff originally on the basis of it being free to access. I emailed every existing contributor I could trace and guaranteed publicly that the archive would remain free to access while I was running it, I improved the web interface and features considerably, and it went from strength to strength...
So there are three important issues that should be noted here:
1. If a website that hosts content for free (TES/PES) changes that without discussing the change with the users who have uploaded original content, they have broken the implicit if not explicit agreement with those uploaders. I would strongly urge uploaders to consider their position re PES if users are forced to sign up and pay for anything before being able to download content that was uploaded on the understanding that it would remain free to access. All previous uploaders should have been contacted to discuss or explain this change of access as a courtesy at the very least, but far more importantly:
2. There may well be legal and copyright issues involved, if the site is now effectively charging for availability to users' content.
3. Bethesda may wish to take an interest in the situation, since it cannot be right that users are disallowed from profiting from creating mods for their games, yet sites can profit directly by restricting access to those mods unless payment is made.
