Dismemberments!

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 3:10 am

Well, Oblivion dont offer the possibility to rip off heads and arms from your enemies, but in Fallout 3 & NV, you can! So, althought we have no mention about that, i think it′s really possible to have this option in the new Skyrim...

Do you like to use the new combat mode and execution animations to dismember your enemies? Or Oblivion was alright for you?

It wouldn't feel right with the Elder Scrolls, if you ask me.. Gore and ultra-violence havn't been in the series so far, and it would ruin it a bit for me if it were this time.

Maybe some slight visual effects after a kill, but nothing that even approaches the bloodbath that was Fallout.

I think it should be included, otherwise it'd just looks weird, I mean h*ll it takes place in a land torn appart by civil war(which are the most devestating and brutal forms of warfare out there). Daggerfall was actually rather gory, almost as gory as Doom and I think Arena was too. So I don't see why it won't feel like TES, it's not a world of rainbow, polly-pocket and pink ponies.

If you don't like gore then why play a game that revolves around fighting? And with swords and axes even! Likewise I don't like being scared the cr*p out of hench why I don't play Horror games; I may deprive myself of a game experiece but I don't go around on Silent Hill, F.E.A.R, or Fatal Frame forums and demand that scary things are not mandatory 8|

Just my two cents.

I just think FO3/NV were kinda ridiculous and over the top with gruesome kills. I have nothing against that, especially considering the kills among other things in FO were supposed to be like that, but some of those kill shots were... not really realistic. I don't think you'll be able to find a person in real life who has shot someone in the face/neck and had their head, as if close to cleanly decapitated, fly backwards. The heads bursting apart when shot is more likely, but considering I doubt Skyrim will have super-heated projectiles traveling at hundreds of meters/second, there's probably no place for that in Skyrim. I'm not against the gore, but for TES series, I'm for realistic gore. Say if you had a high strength and wielded a blade, I can see your finishing move being a decapitation. I just don't think it should be "heads flying."

Realistic gore is fine, but cartoon-style limbs flying everywhere like Fallout would just look silly, and not "brutal" at all. If there were dismemberments, I'd like them to be rare or maybe only achievable at higher levels - it takes a lot of effort to dismember someone (or so I've heard :P). Psychopathic slapstick worked really well for Fallout, but I don't think it would translate well to TES (imo, of course).

When I swing my hammer, I like to see something exploded, but of course, not for blades.

Yes, I do. It's just plain silly that a game where people murder each other with swords does not feature dismemberment when we've clearly seen that it works in Fallout 3. It doesn't need to be that over the top of course, that's Fallout's thing, but having dismemberment would add a lot to the game in my opinion.

I don't really want it.
people say it's more realistic, but the player's character isn't getting chopped up by enemies.

I'd like brutal kills with lots (read: less than Fallout 3) of blood, but I've never seen a game that has dismemberments that didn't look stupid/silly.

No dismemberments for me, thank you.

Edit* Satisfying sound effects are way more important for brutal finishing moves, like bones crunching or tendons snapping as they're being crushed/sliced.

Yes. But nothing too extreme.

Melee + Dismemberment in FO3 and FONV were epic and added to the combat's realistic feel + gave it a nice punch.

Since they want combat very visceral and hardcoe with a punch in Skyrim - I'd bet it's in. Also remember they are going for a realistic low-fantasy setting.
