Mournhold item issue

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:30 pm

I just traveled to Mournhold to play around with the Dark Brotherhood quests and such. I entered the sewers with probably 6 or 7 very high end grand soul gems on hand (600 charges and such from MW Advanced). I left with no grand or greater soul gems at all. Do the goblins or assassins steal items when they hit you or something? I'm cheesed!

Edit: I just reloaded an older game and the problem exists when I had just arrived at the Holomayan Monestary. The save prior to that is a fair bit older so I can't say exactly where it happened. Any ideas? I know I didn't drop the items in question, because it would have taken a very deliberate move to do it. Between loads I lost all of my grands, greaters, and petty soul gems, filled and unfilled, but kept all of my common and lesser ones.

If you were arrested and had stolen any of those type gems, they would all be confiscated as stolen property.

On a side note, I find it interesting that when donating a soul gem to the shrine at Ghostgate, the shrine will take 1 of each type gem if in your inventory. (This could be due to a mod, or lack of one)?

I must have taken soul gems *somewhere*, but I have no idea where as I am not playing a thief character. Perhaps those 3 types of gems were flagged somewhere unexpectedly. I did get stopped on my way through Ebonheart and fined 270g. I didn't bother to look at it at the time because I had taken a key from the floating Temple prison and assumed I was being fined for that. I guess I should have watched more carefully! Hopefully I will run into some more 600 gem quality critters soon. It's not like weapons hold the charge anyway so I suppose it's not that big a deal.

I can't comment on the Ghostgate situation because I always drop everything but my cheapest gem when I do it.

Check the "Evidence" chests, the containers where stolen items are taken to. You say you've been fined in Ebonheart so you should start with Fort Hawkmoth.

Yup, the evidence chest was the answer. Apparently I had taken an example of a few items from somewhere that involved ownership that wasn't obvious. I'm not 100% sure I got *everything* back, which makes me wonder... do these chests have a capacity limit like other ones do, which would then cause leftovers to disappear?

If I take everything out of the chest, is it totally mine at this point or do I risk further fines and confiscations?

No limit on the evidence chests, and no, the items are still marked as stolen so they can be confiscated again. It matters not where you get the item from, once you have stolen one, all other items you put in your inventory with the same id will also be flagged as stolen.

Right, that part I knew. I just had no idea I had stolen samples of the items confiscated. I think there must have been a dungeon or stronghold that had flagged items in it. I do recall being somewhere, freeing slaves, and having them say "stop" when I took something, but I really don't recall where. Oh well. At least now I'm prepared.

Thanks again.

Probably you stole Galbedir's Soul gems early in the game. Since they are so easy to steal you forgot about it. My opinion anyway.

I didn't actually. I use Galbedir as my primary enchanter. I've made a point of NOT stealing on this character, save stuff in shrines and caves and the like.

Okay. Galbedir is the only enchanter that deals in filled Soul Gems on a large basis. If you don't steal from her I guess you've got a glitch somewhere.

I doubt it. I probably took those specific gems from a base that had items that were owned by people, even if by slaves. It could have been just about anywhere by this point so I can't track it down. It is probably an unexpected location, but the game itself is tracking it right I expect.
