Tips for hardcoe Morrowind players

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:21 am

These are tips for people who want a challenge in the game. A few tweaks and playstyles, basically.

Difficulty 100: Obvious one, some people still find it easy.

Dead is Dead: If your character dies, he's really dead. Start a new character. You'll be much more protective of your character if you only give him one life to live. Still save though, since the game is prone to crashing.

Map Begone: Don't use your map, and very little of your local map. Go by landmarks and directions throughout the whole game.

Flip your Skills: Make the skills you'd usually make Major, and make them Minor, and vise-versa. This will make your favorite skills harder to get good in, adding a new experience.

Play Naked: Play the game with no armor, or unamored skill. Popular choice, since armor really does help you out in the long run. If you must, you can play with clothes. But what fun is that?

Mods: I don't know of any mods that make the game harder myself, but you can check the mod forums, they usually have good suggestions.

Rocky: Go through the whole game only using Hand-To-Hand. Assuming you don't use mods that make it damage instead of fatigue, this will be a challenging pace. Though you can laugh in the face of a fatigued Daedra.

Pacifist: Don't fight or kill anything, unless you're required to. Players using this playstyle will want to increase their speed and athletics as much as possible. If you have to kill someone in a cave for a quest, don't kill anyone in the cave except that person.

All in one: Combine everything listed above. Make your character a one-lived, mapless, minor skilled, naked, hand-to-hand using pacifist. If this is STILL easy for you, then go play Ninja Gaiden try asking around for other tips.

This is less tips for hardcoe....and more "How to make the game harder".

Personally, if you aim to play dead is dead hardcoe then most of these other rules to play by will simply get your character killed.

That's the point. People find the game easy because they are blowing through everything like wet toilet paper. If you're dieing constantly, the game is hard. Dead-Is-Dead is actually pretty easy if you just carry a large amount of health potions.

yes, hardcoe is a style of play (aka, charater limits and dead is dead, rules depends on the person)......I see you just refer it to people that are good at the game. Your thread is aimed at good players for making the game harder, not providing tips for people playing with hardcoe rules.....

A good way is to dead is dead RP. I only carry a few health potions to get me out of a tight spot and teleport away...and it makes the game hard. You also then dont seek out the best gear straight away, only as you come arcoss it.

played a h2h pacifist healer once in a dead is dead. i swear, that was a new experience.

i try to play that game as unbloody as possible. even tweaked some quests for that purpose. makes it harder because you miss good loot.

I thought it seemed logical until I got to the fifth paragraph.

Played naked one time, although I did allow myself 2 rings, an amulet, and a weapon.
Also took Unarmored. I was lvl 51 and wondering why my restoration skill was so high when I remembered about the unarmored glitch.....duh.

There's a difference?

The word 'hardcoe' means different things to different players. The meaning of 'hardcoe' has been debated endlessly amongst online gamers for years and will probably continue to be debated forever.

Me, I'm a roleplayer so I tend to see everything through the lens of roleplaying. My list of 'hardcoe' rules would have nothing to do with difficulty. Someone else might have a third criterion for what constitutes 'hardcoe' that is different from either of ours.

So, yes...there is a difference.

yeah, same here. undressing before sleeping, taking a bath before and a wash after bedtime, don't run in houses, (char depending:) don't sleep in the wilderness/don't sleep in taverns etc. ... sticking to those rules can be hardcoe as well :D

My char tried going to Arrile's literally naked and he went ballistic and threatened to call the guards.
Later she tried going to Desele's au naturel and caught a lot of flak. (Naked women on stage are all right but one trrying to order a drink at the bar is a no-no.)
The only positive response was from Crassius Curio.

Fargoth doesn't pay a lot of attention to nudity. He just wants his ring.
When I was in high school, rings and nudity (in the back seat) were sometimes intertwined, but no way with Fargoth.

Try all the main quests on level one. You only have to modify a few level checks mostly in the Morrowind main quest to get it done.

I'm the opposite, gimme an axe and a few bottles of sujamma and I'll feed my blade til there's neither a guard or elf left in sight!!! :chaos:

Playing a mass murdering dead-is-dead character is whole other experience of it's own.
