The future or Morrowind

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:31 pm

Posting this so the word gets around: OpenMW, an open source re-implementation of that game, that will be compatible with things like ragdoll physics and other modern graphical effects.

Yeah it's pretty well known, but lot's don't - I only found out about it by chance when someone mentioned it on the forums. It's worth a post.

OpenMW and DaggerXL. Two of my most looked forward to projects. Maybe even more the TESV, itself! ^_^

... Does anyone know a percentage of completion for this? So much easier than looking at what they have.

There are two other similar engine re-writes also: http://sourceforge.net/projects/aedra/ and http://crystalscrolls.sourceforge.net/.

None of the projects are close to being finished, but they are still being worked on.

These are quite well known projects, there are threads discussing them in the Mod section.

How complete are they? first I've ever heard of them.

Um... not much.

The difference between a commercial project with paid employees working on a controlled schedule/deadline versus a project of volunteers who have family and jobs and filling some of their free time doing something they enjoy without pay.

But they all look promising.

ST
ps, too bad they can't merge the projects into one...

They're all still pre-alpha, as far as I know. So they're all very far from completion, I think.

Is this the one that is banned and can't be named? I can't remember if this is it, or if it's someone's else project. I believe Bethesda got the lawyers involved with this one. Again not shure if it's this one or not.

No your thinking of the one that used Morrowind assets to remake TES 3 in the TES 4 engine

Chances are TES V will be to Oblivion what Oblivion was to Morrowind (just with less level scaling), so I would indeed say that I am looking forward to these projects more than I am to TES V.

That's what the Morrowind Graphics Extender is for. :P

Yuk! I loathe 'ragdoll'. If it's implemented properly, it's usually too subtle to notice. So it's usually implemented 'in your face' and always looks very silly to me. One of the few things that does shatter my 'immersion' is seeing those silly slow-motion leaps into the air on death.

Agreed. If they do go over the top, I hope I can toggle it on and off.

The Future of Morrowind?

Is this the same thing as http://sourceforge.net/projects/aedra/? No? Well, I hope someone finishes something someday. The game's renderer is pretty sad.
