Real-life firearms.

They knew they were making a fictitious AK series rifle so they took some liberties with the estheitcs. I'm not sweating the details. It's an AK series weapon, with no real world exact counterpart, and always will be.

That's what I mean, it is not an AK-47, AK-74, Type 56, but it is supposed to be an AK weapon. It's the first kind of weapon you think of when you see it, but it's fictional :) Like the AK-112 in Fallout 1 and 2, it is an AK weapon, but it is fictional.

These kids that can't get the gist of this obviously need to study up on their firearms history a little better. Maybe even shoot one, if they can. Then they'll be in a better position to contribute to an informed conversation about it. Peace out, homey

Yeah! But that would go for me too, I've got zero experience with firearms, closest to a firearm I've used would be my air rifle :P Kinda hard getting weapons here in Sweden, I just know a few people who has scoped rifles or shotguns because they are hunters. I just tend to read up on a lot of these things, especially before I post something so I get it somewhat right.

You ever make it to the states, you can shoot mine. I'll teach you how to do it right, the Marine Corps way.

damn .46apc now that s some info. The ak 74 does look nothing like the chinese ar it looks alot more plastic not metal. FYI I have done some shooting just not with anything like ak 74 or things of that nature. Nothing close to what military weapons are. My one buddy does civil war reinactments and he has the Union musket. It fires like a 58cal ball that thing is was out of control that has to be the funnest weapon i ever shot. Now he did all the reloading for less chance of people getting hurt.

I would have to say that only 50's and below are the best choice. Anything further down the timeline would not really fit the game in my opinion.

My brother had a brown bess but we never shot it. Pissed me off I couldn't take her for a spin. I think shooting one would be the balls.

Do you mean to say "I would have to say that only 50's and below for real life weapons are the best choice. Anything further down the timeline would not really fit the game in my opinion unless it's a completely imaginary design.

Of do you really think only ancient weapons should be around? WWII was 240 years ago, wasn't it?

They look pretty identical, no? Hence "copies".
Reason I am saying Type 56 is mostly that it's chinese and already looks enough like the AK-47, AK-74 or whatever gun is in the game. But there are many things that arn't the same, exlcuding how much bulkier the weapon is, the stock, the foregrip and the barrel aren't the same as the AK weapons. Also both weapons using 5.56 is just a matter of convenience, instead of littering the wasteland with loads of different. The american assault rifle in Fallout 3 is pretty much an H&K G3 right? It uses 7.62? But in the game it uses 5.56?
But it still doesn't matter, because the weapon isn't an Type 56, AK-47 or AK-74, Beth just drew inspiration from them when making a chinese assault rifle, because the chinese army has used AK-copies like since the People's Republic was formed! The weapon was made to help remind you it's a chinese weapon, that's why it reminds of an AK-47/Type 56

The Assault Rifle in Fallout 3 is a CETME, look at a CETME and then the f3 Assault rifle and they look almost exactly the same. It use's the 5.56, the G3 uses the .308 round also called the 7.62x51.

The http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:G3a3.gif was a direct development from the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:CETMEL.lateral.izq.png. The FO3 Assault Rifle also has a rear sight much more like the unbladed G3 sight. So it actually looks a lot like both weapons. (also, the animations for the assault rifle in the FO3 GECK are named "assaultrifleG3" or some such. It was clearly the inspiration for the weapon).
