New Reno or New Vegas

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:04 pm

IIRC The devs were unhappy with Reno.

I used to like it when I was younger but I think I've grown out of it now. Not to say there still isnt some good stuff there but things like the porm studio I think were a tad immature.

how is a porm studio immature?

Really a porm studio is a little immature?? really.

IIRC?

Just because its "advlt content" doesnt mean its not immature.

New Reno is better, New Vegas doesn't have roving gangs of mafioso and yakuza fighting each other outside the city.

Its immature in that it belongs in a teen "American Pie" style movie.

You both appear to be missing the point. American Pie is an example of a movie that deals with "advlt situations" but is also Immature - much like a lot of the humour in New Reno.

Definately New Reno for me. I was kinda disappointed with New Vegas, because I expected it to be more like New Reno.

I liked the way the whole town was ran by gangs, kinda gave me same kinda feeling as Fistful of Dollars movie gives me. The setting was awesome, the whole place was so hopeless and sad sight. It seemed so that only way anyone could have even a decent life over there was to be a made man. Town full of pushers and prosttutes, there was just no real future for anyone in there but to end up in the gutter with the rest of the slime.

Then on the other hand, if Vegas was more like Reno, people would yell "rip off" and "unoriginal". Or well, maybe people who played and loved Fallout 2, people who haven't wouldn't even notice it.

I know I would have. I think New Vegas could have had more to it, but I definitely didn't want it to be an exact copy of New Reno since I could just play Fallout 2 if I wanted New Reno.

I would have aswell. I like that Vegas is not a dystopia like Reno, I like the concept of it, but it could have been made much better, but not on the engine that FNV was developed on. City could have been bigger, without being split into those sections, and there could have been more life on the strip and in the casinos and... something more, which I cannot put my finger on.

There isn't enough building that you can explore in New Vegas, its disappointing. I would have at least liked to explore one or 2 of the big building in Freeside that are along the main boulevard heading up to the gate to the Strip. More small business's or vendors would have given it some more life, as well as being able to explore more apartments and maybe having set encounters in them. Really pissed off that you can't get a Infiltrator even though you see 2 in Mick and Ralph's.

I didn't mean that it should be exactly like Reno, but I expected more grit and grunge for it. It's too flashy and cheerful for my tastes, for me it really feels more like amusemant park for devoted christians than the sin city of the post-apocalyptic world. There's really no-one to feel pity for, even the ones that have it worst seem to have it pretty good over there. I expected that there would be more junkies on the strip that gamblers would be spitting on in spite and prosttutes trying to make a living while the rich gamblers would be shooing and kicking them away in drunken laughter.

Well I think they were trying to get across that Freeside had it extremely rough in contrast to The Strip only being for the most elite and the House is very strict and takes care of his prescious city.

Yeah, this. Freeside is pretty much the New Reno. The Strip is for the rich, which is kind of proven that you need to pay 2000 to get inside, so there wouldn't really be any junkies and lowlife inside there. We've got them on freeside instead, the muggers, the vagrants, the druggies. Although not too many.

I share the sentingment that there could have been a lot mroe done with NV as far as the city goes.
Freeside wasnt supposed to be a ll that great, but you cant tell me that more of the buildings wouldnt be inhabited by people.
and tis understandable that they were focusing more on dialoge than exploration, but make it look like you cant get into the buildings.
or make the buildings more dilapitated.... was frustrating going from one to another, looking for a way in, to find nothing.

In my opinion i think that new vegas was a let down. I though the city would be far nicer and far better. But it was not and was kinda sad.

Definitely New Reno, what with all the political hullabaloo and mob wars. Additionally, it had massive side quests and *gasp* casino bouncers!
