Mutant Appearance

Okay I was wondering if anyone knew why Super Mutants tend to have a strap under their top lip going around their head? Is there a purpose? To me it seems weird. It seems uncomfortable and I'm sure even a Super Mutant knows what that is. Wouldn't they take it off?

That is to keep their mouth apart wide enough to talk I believe.

One of the negative effects of being a super soldier created by FEV - your upper lip gets huge, and hangs over the mouth, so the strip holds it up so they can talk like Boradam said.

Not really. I'm sure something will pop up though.

Everytime I have to talk to one I can't seem to not focus on the strap. Wouldn't it have been more practical to just cut the lip down to size?

Err, self mutilation doesn't usually have benefits so I would say no.

You'd cut your own lip off if it was too big? :P
If the strap works and doesn't bother them too much, then why not, it's also less painful!

Lol You're both right. I wouldn't cut my lip off.

Okay so let's backtrack for a sec. Why only the top lip getting big? Why not both? It seems to be an odd thing to add in.

I dunno. They seem to get an overbite to cover the lower lip.
