Hello.
I was wandering if it is possible to replace the image that comes up when you open the Morrowind Launcher.(The one with Play, Data Files, etc.) I have looked in the Texture folder and BSA's but couldn't find anything that relates to the image. Surely it must be possible because Bethesda have changed it (one for Morrowind, one for Morrowind+Tribunal, one for Morrowind+Tribunal+Bloodmoon, etc.).

Any help would be great.

That file is part of the Morrowind Launcher.exe
A program like ResEdit would need to be used, along with a patch to actually alter the exe.

I think someone already asked Hrnchamd about it, but no word yet (as far as I know.)

I posted the same thread a few weeks ago. You can definitely edit the image yourself and/or replace it with a different one. It was never clarified as to whether it is ok or not to distribute an edited one.

Bethesda has clearly stated that no permission is given to redistribute modified versions of the game executables. You do however have permission to distribute a patch that the end-user would run to modify the exe. The reasoning here is that distributing the game executable in any usable form would be giving away the game for free, undermining Bethesda's business interests - but a patch would require the end-user to have purchased and installed a legitimate copy of the game for the patch to modify. The Morrowind Code Patch is a prime example.

It's true that some people may have acquired copies of Morrowind through unprofitable means, but distributing a modified version of the game executable takes away all doubt that Bethesda nets a big fat zero. :down:


[edit] not to mention the confusion that could be introduced where someone acquires the exe expecting it to be the original and it turns out to be modified, causing issues with future 3rd party patchers that expect the exe to be the original. If the end-user has to apply the patch themselves, then they know what they're getting.

From what I myself have done I figured out how I can pick which launcher image I want from the three provided by Bethesda. If you have the game CDs you can extract the launchers in them and overwrite your current one with the desired. I use the original Morrowind version for my install and it doesn't seem to affect on stability. So that is something you can do to change the launcher image. Is there a specific image you wanted to use or have you not considered it fully yet?

I wanted something like on the cover of the GOTY edition. Black background with golden edges and the golden triangle. But I might go back to the Tribunal one (that was cool) or mabye the vanilla one.
