[WIPz] Wizards' Islands Super Patch

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 3:19 pm

Hey,

I know it's ancient history these days but I've only recently played through Wizards' Islands. Although it was a good mod, I had a lot of problems with it (see my rant review on PES).

However, I have since started work on a "Super Patch" that combines a few existing patches (specifically WI FPS Fix and WI BM Patch) with some changes of my own (mostly spelling and grammer fixes). I have got permission from all the necessary authors.

So, is anyone actually interested in this, and does anyone have any suggestions for specific fixes I can include?

I've never actually played the mod, so I can't offer any suggestions other than what Rattfink already said. But I look forward to the super patch - seeing as I've always intended to play the mod, but just never got to it  .

Haha... I actually thought of moving Wizards Island farther west but I think North makes more sense.

Yeah TR compatibility would be nice, and moving it north makes sense. I wonder how far north you would be able to move the island for it to still show up on the map properly with the MCP map fix?

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1018466-list-wizard-island-support/ It sounds like Huskobar already did some work on the mod, and posted an early revision. The last post indicates that he's still working on it, but it has been a while.

That thread is new to me - and I'm a little gutted I haven't seen it before! It looks like huskobar's patch is a lot more thorough than mine, but it's a bit late to consider merging them or giving up the project entirely. I think I'll just release this "super patch" anyway, as it's an improvement from the original version of WI and it means people don't have to download multiple patches, however it may be overidden by huskobar's, if he is indeed still working on it. If huskobar does properly release his mod at some point, then perhaps we could consider merging them.

You can try contacting huskobar through a PM, his profile says that he has been online in the last few days. Maybe something can be done to combine the efforts.

Hi gang

Sorry for being incognito a lot, but I've come down with a sudden case of employment and that demands a lot of attention right there. Also, I've taken a slightly different tack in that I've now turned most of my remaining time to my total conversion project. I've left a few loose ends on things like WI, The Underground, GOTY Script Tidy, and other offerings and sadly it might be a while yet before things get completely under control. Having said that...

The Wizards Islands revision is probably one of the most complete packages I have uploaded. It is http://www.mediafire.com/?xg0kydnyyit

Let it be known that this is not just a patch, it is a complete rework. I have made such reworks on the experimental notion that more compact is better, and the form it takes is to bring it in line with everything I'm doing in my TC of which WI is a part. You will find that most of it works o.k., but there are a few breaks (some from the original mod, a couple of my own) that still need a fix. You might be able to find these outstanding issues in the aforementioned thread. More importantly, much behind-the-scenes stuff has been signifigantly altered. Scripts have been renamed and I embarked on the start of a renaming of many support files. The data files are a real jumble and anything BUT compact right now. Hopefully I'll get a chance to bring it all in line some day. I have run this by Pionata and he would also like me to fix some path grids. So...

Use the WI Revision at your own risk. Be sure to install all the support files but be aware there may be several leftover files - don't overwrite any meshes and textures you don't want to! Note that this DOES move the main island north. However, the map, even with MCP, is such that northern regions get cut off while there is a lot of empty space to the south.

I did a great deal of work on the dialogue. Take a look at that and anything else I've contributed and if you want to use it, feel free. You might be able to use an export/import operation to migrate dialogue over to your patch if that's what you want to do. I'd also be grateful for the opportunity to use any fixes you might come up with for any outstanding issues if that would be o.k.

Thank you, and happy patching!

Heh, no worries huskobar, real life takes priority! But thanks for your reply.

Basically, I think I'm going to release an early, incomplete patch - i.e. what I've done so far - with the logic that any patch is better than no patch.

That way, if you do any more work on your patch in the future, you can take whatever features you want from my patch, or if I feel like doing some more work on my patch then I can just update it.

Awesome, I like the sound of this. I played through the mods some years ago and would like to do it again on a new playthrough, but some things like the spelling mistakes do detract from the experience.

I think that the second island (I believe it is called "Secret Island" or something like that) also has to be moved out further east to avoid TR conflicts. I also recall having some collision issues in the manor on that island (Darger's Manor, I think) I think the doorways may have been too small to fit through or something like that... or maybe that was just me.

Good luck with this, I'm looking forward to a download!

Thanks :)

EDIT: Actually, just moving it north did the trick! I don't know what to do about the small doors, I might address that in a future release though.
