I use foobar2000 for when I'm listening to music. Since people are posting layouts, http://i.imgur.com/twsF2.png. The empty text box to the right (with the lone question mark) is set to display the lyrics that I embed in the ID3 tags. Haven't gotten around to the album that was playing yet

I'll use VLC if I'm just checking something out, or if I'm just trying to listen to a short file.

Ever tried http://www.clementine-player.org/? It's like Amarok without the [censored] up UI.

Amarok's UI is not [censored]

How do you get it to display the picture of the album art like that?

I never liked it since it changed with the 2.x release... Clementine is basically Amarok 1.x as far as UI goes.

Sometimes iTunes, Sometimes I use FL Studio's Sampler plugin, an use channel effects to enhance the songs. And Windows Media Player when I want to listen to one song, and don't feel like opening anything else.

I like Zune because it looks pretty and it manages and automatically downloads podcasts I subscribe to. :)

1. If you are taking audio CDs and putting their contents on your computer, you are ripping them, not burning them (burning is when you are taking files on your computer and putting them on optical media)

2. You aren't ripping them on WMP, but using WMP's CD rip tool to rip them to your computer. If WMP can see them, any music player (or file manager) can see them.

Yeah I get those terms/slang mixed up. Whoops.
