Container Respawning . . . odd behaviors!

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 10:01 am

Okay, I'm con-fuddled.

I'm trying to determine why when i create a new container record based off one of the vendor buried chests, put different stuff in it, and place it in the vendors store cell (not the hidden vendorcell) that the items inside don't respawn . . . the cell itself respawns, as I tested by putting a random respawning raider inside . . . using FWE's menu (or the console) and changing the ihourstorespawncell affects when the dummy raider respawns (as expected) . . . but the container never seems to respawn. The container itself is flagged to respawn, so what's the deal?

Anyone know what might be going on?

Many of the vendor containers are scripted. Could the scripts be messing up the respawning?

In fact, I don't seem to be able to create any containers that respawn . . . how can that be?

Alright . . . so I setup a different scenario:

1) I choose a respawning cell (Moira's shop in this case, respawns via the megaton encounter zone)
2) Added a respawning raider
3) Added a new container (not based on a vendor cell) with a few random items

4) Entered the cell
5) Raider had spawned . . . killed him
6) Container was full (as expected) . . . I look the loot
7) left the cell

8) set the respawn timer to 1 hour (ihourstorespawncell)
9) waited 3 hours

10) re-entered the cell
11) the raider had respawned (as expected) . . . I killed him again (as expected)
12) the container was still empty and had NOT respawned

Has anyone honestly confirmed containers respawning? Becuase other than the vendor containers, I can't think of an instance where I was like "oh yeah, cool, there is stuff in here again because the container must have respawned"

- utterly confused

That certainly is odd. I took a look at the MegatonCratersideSupply cell, and from what I can see, none of the containers are set to respawn. The "merchant" container is only filled if someone (the PC) manage to open it - up until then it only contains a pencil. Have you tried making the container persistent?

I'll try making my dummy container persistent . . . you might try replicating what I did in a completely different cell to just to see if that has any impact.

Maybe there is a bug with trying to have containers respawn that fast? Have you or anyone else done it that fast before? Try setting the respawn time lower but then waiting the default time and see if it respawns.
