Looking for Unique Light Armors in the Game...

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 6:41 am

I like light armor and I really like the way the Armored Vault Suit looks because it is unique, but now that I am a higher level I want something that offers more protection. I really want something that no one else in the game has. That is why I like the AVS so much. So far I haven't found any other unique light armors besides the CSA (which is OK for certain situations, but it's over-powered and I like to see my character's face). Now I haven't played everything in the game, so maybe I just haven't come across something really cool yet? Hopefully?

AVS = Armoured Vault Suit

This should be moved to Cheats & Hints, really.

Here are a couple of suggestions -

Spoiler
Ranger Combat Armour is one of the best, if you're looking for something outside of power armour. Also, visit The Pitt - it has a load of unique armours that are not available in the Capital Wasteland.

Any Raider armor you pick up is going to be slightly better in DR than the Armored Vault Suit, plus a lot easier to repair. Granted they don't give the stat bonus of the AVS. Leather armor is a good start that is relatively easy to find. It has twice the DR of the Armored Vault Suit, at the same weight. Recon armor is a bit better than that in DR and also with a +5 to stealth, but weighs 5lbs more. Winawer's suggestion is one of my all time favorites. Not only excellent DR, but also several stat buffs as well.

If you can find it, I like using The Wanderers Leather Armor. Nothing overly special about it, but it's something nobody else in the game has.

Yes, the Wanderer's Leather Armor is cool. Also, Raider Commando Armor from the Pitt has the same skin as the Leather Rebel, the only difference being that you can repair it with other Raider armor. Ranger Armor of course, is one of the best. I like the Raider Paingiver Armor as well.

Thanks for all of the suggestions! It's too bad that some of those armors don't come in different colors so my character can looked different. I'll probably stick with the AVS for awhile longer just because I really like it. Too bad it's pretty weak. Then I might go with the Recon armor without the helmet, I haven't seen anyone around wearing that one yet. Plus I like the sneak bonus...

Do you have the Pitt DLC? It has quite a few different types a raider type armor.

Also try Combat armor and the druid hood. It is cool. You rarely encounter another enemy with that look.
(except that guy in the chapel...)

I may be in a minority here, but I actually like raider armor. I like the way most of it looks and I like the fact that it is easy to keep it in top repair because there are always raiders around to kill. But I have a hard time justifying it roleplaying-wise. I mean if I am decked out in full raider gear, then how do people like the BoS know that I am friendly and not a raider, you know? ;)

The Raider Badlands Armor is one of my favorites in the game. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/subrosa_florens/Computer%20Games/Fallout3045.jpg I think that's why I like it. It looks like just something somebody collected here and there.

I never thought about wearing Raider's armour, but that does look more like a wasteland armour. The ones I took off raiders to sell I don't think I ever saw one as 'good' as that, and neither did the raiders that I killed .. I would never have killed them .........

That's my favorite raider armor too, for both male and female characters. That's why I drew my character wearing that one. ;) Plus out of all of the raider armors the Badlands one looks the most like a regular Wastelander could wear it and not stick out as a raider.

In all the hours I've logged I've found the Reilly's Ranger Combat Armor the best practical suit. As long as you are getting harrassed by talon company you will have repairr materials. Just be careful not to accidentally repair the wrong item. Theres only one suit of it. I think its DR is 28 IIRC. Actually Talon armor isnt that bad either. Though now that I think about it I think they are med armor and you were asking about light. I think whenevr I needed light I would just swap out to whatever uniform I happened to be carrying.
