Reaction after ESV being NOT announced

So, you think the mass dislike for OB on these boards is just made up? Be realistic. People say it because they feel that way. I really disliked OB, because Morrowind is 100x a better game.
I'm glad you like it. A lot of people did, and a lot of people didn't.. I really don't care either way about your opinions on the matter.

snobs.

Oblivion is clearly not a crap game.

the people who critise it still probably put 80 hours into it. And then they only call it bad in relation to the omg non-levelled, unique item'ed Morrowind.

I love both MW and OB. Both have good and bad points.

I think people over react just a bit about the whole "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is the greatest game in the history of the universe." deal....

I don't really mind the Oblivion fanbase so much as I mind the inescapable press that is always touting the game as one of the best RPGs of the century.

EDIT: Back on topic, I was kind of hoping that Todd would steal the show and announce it, especially after id Software decided to totally smash everyone's hopes and dreams of a Doom 4 preview again. I guess he's too innocent. :P

I don't think I commented on Morrowinds fan base before OB was released. You're trying to put words into my mouth and insinuate circumstances to sway the argument in your direction, and it's not working. Because this isn't an arguement.
Fact: A lot of people didn't like OB, because Morrowind was a better game in their opinion.
And that's the only fact I stated. You can't argue that, or you simply don't know what you're talking about.

Lol, what? I have about 1000+ hours put into Morrowind, and almost 300 or so put into OB. I played OB because it was TES, not because I liked it. I have made characters that reached over level 50 on the Xbox 360 version, no cheating, no mods. I'd say I have a pretty decent grasp of the game bud.

I don't really mind the Oblivion fanbase so much as I mind the inescapable press that is always touting the game as one of the best RPGs of the century. I was checking out the QuakeCon sales on Steam the other day, and almost burst out laughing when I saw the blurb for Oblivion:

"The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion? Game of the Year Edition presents one of the best RPGs of all time like never before. Step inside the most richly detailed and vibrant game-world ever created."

Yeah, I don't think so. Fun from time to time, sure, especially from the perspective of the silly review writers who are hand-picked to ensure that they've never played another game in the series, but otherwise meh. :P

Hmmm, there is ONE other game like it, Morrowind, and that's it. Arena can't compete and neither can Daggerfall, for largely, undetailed gameworld reasons. As far as detailed and vibrant gameworlds go, yeah, Oblivion is pretty much up there with Morrowind at the top spot. Name a few games that top it in detailed, vibrant worlds.

Opinions are fine and all that, but the repetitive hive mentaility of "let's gang up on the popular one to make us seem like a smaller, smarter group" can't be more infuriating. Oblivion is praised for being an Elder Scrolls game. Your point is what, exactly?

About 250, and there are legitimate things to criticize. I try not to be too hostile with my opinion and have not actually jumped into the debates too much but at the end of the day I want options!

There should be a poll option "Quake-con is going on?"

I voted "QuakeCon isn't over yet" even though I doubt that it will be announced before it is over. It will be announced when they're ready to announce it. If that's later today, great. If not, no biggie. I'm still looking forward Fallout: New Vegas, and expect that and Fallout 3 to carry me through to the eventual release of TES V.

Opinions on the matter aren't hostility. Hostility is the vocalization of "yeah, we hate those dumbed-down action junkies of Oblivion" or blunt "Oblivion is crap" statements that pop up everywhere for no reason other than to pop up everywhere and to make everyone recognize Morrowind as a better game in every way that's for true role-players while Oblivion is mainstream garbage that makes all its fans fair game for hunting.

---

How about the option of "What is Quake-con?"

Honestly, what is it?

I am not surprised that it hasn't been mentioned or announced. I will admit, that even now I still having a tiny lingering bit of hope, that there might be the slightest hint or nod toward it, but I don't expect it. Before Quakecon even started, I kinda just told myself it wasn't going to be announced. As much as I want it to be, I find it's best not to get excited for things. With their recent announcement of only Bethesda published games being able to use ID Tech 5 engine, I do wonder if perhaps that might be part of the reason we haven't seen it yet. It might be possible that they began work on it after Fallout 3, but when they had access to ID Tech 5, they might have decided to go with that as an engine. Possibly having to rework things and back track over things that might have already been done. Probably not what happened, but at least that's one of the options I keep in my mind, to keep myself content with not yet knowing much about ES V.

TES V's announcement is a myth, right? It actually being announced will someday be what surprises me. I'll be in a state of "I can't believe that it's finally known to us."

Me(after announcement): Really? April Fools Joke? How long have I been asleep? Misinformed posters? Does this mean the world is actually ending?

This discussion about a Quakecom announcement - or the lack of - can go in the speculation topic, the Oblivion vs Morrowind stuff never goes well so that can be left alone.
