Why Psycho effectively became Med-X in F3 and FNV?

Any logical reason behind Psycho being turned from a damage resistance chem to a damage chem?

Because they wanted a damage chem, although it makes less sense scientifically (though I know this isn't really the right place for that).

Wasn't Med-X supposed to be Morphine or something? Thought I remembered reading that somewhere. Were all the chems supposed to be based off real-world ones?

Med-X being planned for morphoine is true, but the others dont have a direct system; however the point being made is that Med-X's effect (Increased DT/DR) mirrors Psycho's effect in FO1/2 (Drop 2 Psycho in FO1/2 and you're immune to everything but critical hits and conversation).

Jup, the idea was also banned because some prude censorship loving countries like Australia almost got a heart attack stating it would promote teenage drug abuse! As if med X doesn't sound mysterious enough..

This just in: Teens of all ages are lining up outside hospitals around the world, just FIENDING to get their hands on some morphine! And it's all because of Fallout 3.

More news at 6.

I'd hazard the guess that it was altered since Med-X is the morphine, so Psycho is the rage inducer. Plsu the name suits it, but the change to one in neglect of the other may be for balance reasons.

Well it would be fairly pointless to have two damage resistance chems.

Unless one's tougher, more expensive, and more rare but having Psycho a rage drug and Med-X (morphine) a damage reistance drug makes a lot of sense.

A better question to ask is why the hell do the drugs in Fallout 3 and New Vegas have little to no downside. hardcoe mode give some downside.

Just take a look at Jet from Fallout 2. I was thinking Super Jet in Fallout 3 would really mess me up :sadvaultboy:

effects: Immediate:
+2 Action Points
+1 Strength
+1 Perception
After 5 Minutes:
-4 Action Points
-4 Strength
-4 Perception
After 24 Hours:
+2 Action Points
+3 Strength
+3 Perception
addiction: 50% Chance of Addiction, which is permanent without the Cure
After 2 days on Non-Use
-1 Strength
-1 Perception
-1 Action Point

Its not as if this enforecment was an actice choice. The Austrlian rating guidelines are clear - no real world medicines that require a prescription. Rule wasn't made for FO3.

I know, I just think it's ridiculous that they're worried about it. Or were.

Yeah, that is a good question. IMO, that's even worse than using real-world drugs.

"Hey kids, in Fallout, you can pump whatever crap you want into your system with no negative after-effects! JUST LIKE IN REAL LIFE! BECOME AN ADDICT TODAY!"

Edit: my bad, meant to put this in my last post.

My scientist character is addicted to med-x (morphine) and buffout (what I consider to be steroids). There ARE some downsides, like less strength and endurance. After a while, though, you get used to it, the lack of your drug(s) of choice becomes less of a disadvantage compared to the advantage of actually finding them. True, the side effects are pretty scarce and unrealistic, as someone addicted to morphine would break down and start getting gooseflesh, hallucinations etc. after a few days. He would definately not be capable of sprinting around the mohave. One day I plan to completly submit to my addiction and start killing people to get my fix.

I think physco should only effect melee and unarmed attacks. Not sure how the chem makes its way into our bullets and fusion cells.

This. A drug making you physically stronger shouldn't make the ammunition in your firearms deadlier. Psycho would do to you what Venom did to Bane :P Hohohohoh

To think of it... I rather just run around and injecting Psycho into someone non-stop until they would die from overdose. Waste of Psycho, but it would be worth it.
