Conversion - Oblivion to Fallout

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 5:17 am

I am currently working on an eye mod for both oblivion and fallout, but Nequams eye meshes are in oblivion format, and will not work in FO3. I have asked permission and he is fine with me converting them to Fallout, but I'm a bit stuck. I opened them in 3DS Max, and exported as the newer version, but they make the Fallout Cs crash whenever I try to load them, which I'm guessing is because they don't retain their data after the conversion. I have tried to copy the data from the old meshes in NifSkope, but it just won't work.

Anybody have any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Ask a moderator to move the thread to the Geck (Fallout CS) forum.

I still think this would fit here. It does involve the conversion of data from Oblivion, and applies to Oblivion too, as I am also looking to converst some stuff from FO3 to Oblivion (which I guess is more or less the same but in reverse)

I'm pretty sure i once saw some clothes mods for fallout 3 that were supposed to be converted from oblivion stuff, i know next to nothing about eye meshes, but i might want to check out the fallout3nexus for that mod, i think it was in the top 100, but i'm not sure.

I have the meshes, but they are for oblivion. I would be ideal to use the same mesh as the mod will be practically the same for both games.

if there isn't anything special about the eye meshes, like are just a half sphere mesh, no funky multilayer meshes with alpha to simulate(poorly) refraction. then I would imagine that editing the F3 vanilla eye mesh to be the best solution. simply to match the UV of the oblivion meshes(there may even be a mod that has a similar UV already). Or even better, do a complete overhaul of the entire thing. ie start experimenting on a new eye mesh. then transfer all the textures from whatever ob mods and F3 mods/vanilla to use the new eye set up, in effect consolidating the mess eye mods are. been thinking of doing such a thing myself. just haven't gotten to it. too many things not enough time.

because you can't add texture sets to eye textures afaik, you cannot add glow maps unless its a specific one per each custom race. so glow maps out the window.

I would be will to do a simple UV edit/ob conversion. i just need to see what you want the eye meshes in fallout to be like.

I am using Nequams Eye meshes from EE. He's fine with me converting it, it's jut that when I import it from Oblivion and Export to Fallout, it looses all it's data (in NifSkope) which is likely the source of the problem making my CS crash. The meshes just have new UV's. You can find the meshes alone http://cpprdxfersc405.fileplanet.com/ftp2/planetelderscrolls/fms/files/oblivionmods/3298/NequamEyeMeshes.7z?clientid=1227209324
