TNR Races

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:35 pm

I love Mazoga the Orc's vanilla look. She was one of my favorite characters in the game - her face and nubby hair made her so memorable!

I love TNR races, but I don't like the changes only to Mazoga. She has a pulled down upper lip and girly long hair. LOL I don't think it fits her (at least not the Mazoga in MY game!)

Can I somehow revert to the Vanilla Mazoga but leave TNR running? I guess I'd have to get into the construction set or something? Maybe it's not even possible. At least, I don't mind the new face as much as I do the hair on her...if I could at least get Mazoga's hair back to the original nubby hairdo I'll be happy.

Yes. Create a quick patch to overwrite the face with the vanilla face records. Do you have TES4Edit? I can give you instructions on how to do that right quick.

Tom I've downloaded TES4Edit but not got it up and running yet. If you could tell me how yes I'd appreciate it! I've been postponing doing her quest until I find out whether I can do this or not.

Drop TES4Edit, the EXE, in your Oblivion folder. That way, Wrye Bash will detect it and add a shortcut for it along the bottom of the Bash window. I will update this post with some instructions in a few...

Edit: While I write up the instructions, you may want to launch TES4Edit (try out the Bash shortcut) and track down Mazoga's NPC record. At the first dialog, you only have to load the Oblivion.esm, so right-click, choose unselect all, and put a check next to Oblivion.esm. Hit OK for the next window, and (once TES4Edit finishes loading) expand the NPC branch. Click on the "Name" tab to sort the records by name, and find her record.

OK I'm working on this right now.

Hmmm....am having problems installing the .exe...a .dll is not found - d3dx9_33.dll - maybe a direct x thing? Going to search that out first. (yep it was :) going to fix that now)

Here are most of the instructions, but I have not added the bit about adding the import face tag. I know how to do it with Wrye Bash, but you should be able to modify a plugin's description with TES4Edit. Could you try this out for me? I think if you click on the File Header , the first record when you expand a plugin, of the newly-created plugin, you should be able to right-click in a description area to modify it. Do you see that? The text to add the tag is {{BASH:NpcFaces,NoMerge,Deactivate}}. You can add this to the plugin's description in the Wrye Bash window and save it there, but I would rather have the whole process contained in TES4Edit for these instructions.

OK this didn't work for some reason. I dropped the exe in the Oblivion folder but WB hasn't loaded it in the Launch bar at the bottom left. Is there something else I need to do? I closed WB and opened again several times but it's still not catching it.

OK got it. I double checked it on the web (I remembered there were instructions to set her essential). The ids match and I got the id.

OK I'm going to try your other instructions now (above this post).

That is strange...Try this, and at step #5, make sure the path for TES4Edit, just says TES4Edit.exe. Just to be clear, when I say "Oblivion folder", I mean the one that contains your Data folder.

From http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/prep
# Do the initial configuration for Bash.
>> notes: If you first download and use the installer version of Wrye Bash, before extracting the latest archive version on top of it, you can skip this step.

1. Find the "bash_default.ini" in Oblivion\Mopy and copy it
2. Rename the copy to "bash.ini."
3. Open the bash.ini
4. Set "sOblivionMods" to the path to your "Oblivion Mods" folder. Example:
sOblivionMods=D:\Oblivion Mods\
5. Scroll down and make sure that the paths to other programs are correct. The root folder is the "Oblivion" folder, so paths that do not start with a drive letter (i.e., "C:\" or "D:\") start in the "Oblivion" folder. Example:

someentry=aprogram.exe is the equivalent of someentry=C:\Program Files\gamesas\Oblivion\aprogram.exe

>> notes: 1) If you followed the instructions above for installing the utilities mentioned above, they are already in the root folder ("Oblivion") so you should not have to change the file paths for those. 2) Do not worry if you see a program in the bash.ini that you do not have installed. Bash ignores apps that it does not find (if they are not installed or if the file path is wrong.)
6. Once you are satisfied, save and close the INI file.
7. Copy the bashed patch Oblivion\Mopy\Extras\bashed patch, 0.esp
8. Paste it in Oblivion\Data
9. Launch Wrye Bash

You realize it would be far easier to open the TNR file in TES4Edit, find Mazoga's entry and just delete it from TNR?

I do not like to change the original plugins for things like this, but that works as well.

Edit: Gankaku, since you already have Wrye Bash, add the Bash tag to the description in the WB window. (Remember to hit the "Save" button afterward.) Then you need to load it after TNR, leave it deactivated it, and rebuild your bashed patch.

Edit: It looks like you need to install http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en.

Edit: I update the instructions with the Wrye Bash steps.

No :) I read this about 5 times and tried to find what you are talking about. OK I have TES4Edit open and the Mazoga record highlighted. I don't see a File Header or anywhere to expand anything. Could you please clairfy?

OK I'm going to read all this before I post again. I don't mind deleting the record from TNR - that seems easy enough. However, I'd like to see what you're asking me to try Tom and will follow through with this.

Have you created the plugin yet? You should go ahead an do that first. When you expand the records of a plugin, by clicking on the "+" next to its name, what is the first record listed?

OK :) I got the plugin created (your instructions were nice) and I edited the description in Wrye Bash for MazogaVanilla.esp. Now what? Should I rebuild the patch and try it -- must I have it checked or unchecked (since it's green in WB?) or is there something else I need to do to make it override TNR stuff? (grr I forgot step 12. BRB)

Did you add the NoMerge and Deactivate tags? Are you using Wrye Bash v283? I was expecting that it would be purple and italicized. Right-click and choose "Mark mergeable" to see it that corrections the text distinction. You do have to rebuild your bashed patch, and you should load this plugin right after TNR.

Edit: It should be deactivated. Plugins distinguished by purple or italicized text should be deactivated. Most plugins with green text should be deactivated as well, unless they are loading after the bashed patch.

If you would like to see instructions for other types of patches, let me know. I have not made any mods for Oblivion, but I have spent many hours fiddling around with TES4Edit.

Yes I'd love to see anything you have. I'd love to test them out because that's how I'll learn these tools.

Well, I would need some suggestions or requests, but I am glad the instructions have worked out so far...

Edit: That reminds me...someone wanted me to make a plugin for the Moonshadow Elves hair add-on, which would have to be for personal use of course. I do not have a PC with which to do that, but I will write up the instructions for how to go about doing that.
