Brink story ruined! [SPOILER ALERT]

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 10:21 am

the achievments/trophys have been released but i wish i didn't look through them now.
the title of one of the achievments is: youv'e escaped the ark. to complete that, you need to complete all resistance missions.

there are also things called what-if missions. if anyone has any information, i would like to hear more about them.

thanks.

From what i have gather through interviews, you can end the game a few different way per side.
And one of those is escaping the Ark.

They've been released for quite some time now. The large majority of the people on these forums know almost everything there is to know about Brink. We spoiled it for ourselves long ago.

What-if missions are like "What if this happened?" They are alternate endings.

ah.

the what-if missions can be skipped so i wonder if, inbetween missions you are in a free roam enviroment when the resistance are fighting the security and you have to go to different poeple to access different sort of missions. kind of like skate when you can go off and do anything you like and play missions as you please.

No, it's not a free roam enviroment. It's giant-epic map after giant-epic map after giant-epic map.

Well from what I've read on the forum (ah-thanku) it seems that what-if mission change the entire ending of the story. So it can end well or badly. So the achievements sound like spoilers, but the truth is that there will be more than one ending and other options covered. Also the achievement might be ironic or sarcastic i.e. the resistance loses and it ends with a shot of your body floating away on the ocean with the title "You have escaped the ark" etc. etc.

Then don't try to get it. Saves us the effort, and preserves the storyline for you.

No, there is no free-roam environment.

And any mission can be skipped, not just what-if missions. Think of it as the Left 4 Dead campaigns. Although the story follows an order, you can pick whatever one you want, and it can stand alone in terms of gameplay and story.

Ok. Think of the story. It has an ending, then you get to play through again on the what-if setting which gives you a different ending. That's kind of what we think the what-if missions are, just another way the war could have gone.

As for the spoiler achievements, despite what it sounds like, it might not necessarily be as clear-cut as it sounds. It is taken out of context, so it might not be a spoiler at all.

Er, I was just kidding, but it's probably for the best. The best parts of a game is learning how to play, what everything is, how the plot turns out. I don't want to rob you of the experience.

You sir, have made my day. You have single-handedly made the resistance storyline more interesting to me.

And you sir, have made my day, by complimenting one of my comments which mostly go unnoticed. I'm glad I could pour enough doubt onto that spoiler to snuff it for you.

"What-if" missions are bonus maps obtained by completing each Campaign. They do not change the story at all, hence why they are called "what-if."

The Reactor map showcased at E3 was a what-if mission - the map is earned by completing the Resistance Campaign. The background for the map is as follows.

What if a Resistance radical formed his own band of fighters or militia, and tried to destroy a fusion reactor on the Ark. It doesn't change anything about the main story, and acts as more of an alternative scenario proposed by the devs.

In layman's terms - they are bonus missions.

What can I say? It's a gift

But as Capt. Awesome Man corrected - there aren't multiple endings. So it will probably be a happy one.
Way to bring down the mood Awesome!
