Why Peer to Peer?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 5:29 am

I've been looking forward to Brink, and following it's progression for quite a while. Only today did I find out that the 360 and PS3 versions will have peer to peer multiplayer, and it seems like a terrible idea. Other FPS games that have been P2P have been plagued by issues ranging from hackers, to the dreaded "host advantage". This game has potential to be the next juggernaut, and now they are willing to risk it all on P2P hosting. I have friends spread across the United States, Europe, and Australia, and we were all excited to be playing this, but now knowing this, I know a lot of them will pass on this due to their past experience with P2P games. Honestly I'm on the fence now too. I buy these shooters to play with friends, not local randoms. I was really hoping that P2P on consoles was becoming a thing of the past....

One positive thing about peer to peer is it can never be taken down. The problem with it is people can hack it.
