How to edit a mod in the GECK while being used?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 10:54 am

I'm working on a major mod project and I've gotten it in my game to test it out and I've released it, but I can't save anything in the GECK. It says:

MASTERFILE: Unable to complete operation due to failure removing previous file. Plugin 'xxxxx' may be locked or read only. Temp file 'xxxxxxx' contains saved data. Context: DEFAULT. "Yes to all" will disable all warnings for this context.

What am I supposed to do?

It means you have it open in Fo3. CLose the game then save, then reopen the game. You cant edit things, then save and have it change ingame like that, it wont work.

If you do not have it open in Fallout 3 or FO3Edit, it could be that the file you are editing is a master file, that is, a file that has the esm flag set. When the esm flag is set, GECK cannot save the file. If you load an .esm file without the esm flag set, GECK will set the flag, the first time you save.

I've actually just set it to Plugin instead of Active File, and saved it as a new file instead of trying to overwrite.

For your information, GECK does not allow usage of esps as master (even though there is nothing in the engine that has any problem with it).

to save a mod, it needs to be set as the active file, and be an ESP with no ESM flag.

Yeah, I already know that.. That wasn't really the original question though. I wasn't asking how to save, but how to save while being used, which isn't possible. I'm saving myself time by just setting it as a plugin and saving a new file.

When loading a mod, set it as the active file. This will let you save without having to save a new one, which is actually a bad thing to do. You are just asking to corrupt your save files with the constant removal and addition of mods.

You're missing the point.. I'm not constantly doing it it's for a mod update.

I already know everything you just said, too. I even said that in the last post
