GECK and 64bit Operating Systems

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 6:44 am

I’m back at it again, this time with a better computer.

I installed the GECK and the 1.5 patch for it (to Program Files (x86)), configured the compatibility option of the GECK.exe to WinXP sp3, disable visual themes, disable desktop composition and Run as Admin; same for the GECK.exe desktop shortcut. I open the GECK and start working away. After about an hour of mixing and matching pieces together for a project that I foolishly decided that I could handle, I go to save and get an error message:

You must close all open Dialog Boxes before saving.

Ironically I don’t have any dialog boxes open, except for that damn error.

And so I quit the program losing all my data and tried a different route. I started the GECK again and this time before editing anything I try to save a blank file and get that same error box. Restarted my computer and tried to save a blank file again and to my not surprise, that damn error box popped up again.

Oh what to do… The only thing I can think of is compatibility issues with Win7 x64. Never happened to me in Vista x86 last year when I used it.

To double check for open dialog boxes, look right above the windows start button and you might see a minimized dialog box between the button and the cell view window. I have a 1600 x 900 screen and it can barely see it.

If only it were that easy. I do run my computer at 1680x1050 and sit a good 4 to 5 feet away from the monitor I don't see that box its talking about. And belive me with 2 monitors, I'm resizing, moving windows out of the way, left and right, up and down looking for this stupid box. I'm still convinced its an issue with the OS.

What ya mean I don't have permission to edit my post... :banghead:

Anyways...

:EDIT:

You know what it was... Ultramon.

I use that app to minimize window clutter with 2 monitors on the taskbar, I closed that program and what ya know, I can save a blank esp file now... :brokencomputer:

Well lesson learned, I guess you can't blame everything on Windows, heh. :whistling:

I think its an issue with having 2 monitors. I have windows 7, 64-bit and a 1680x1050 monitor and this never happens to me. Its not operating system, or screen size. I bet windows are just off the screen or messed up since you have 2 monitors as I have heard it can be hard to get it working well with 2. (So you can see everything and all)
