Seems like no hand to hand in Skyrim

Okay, well, besides, think about it. Fighting with fists HAS to be in, how else would normally defenseless (or very rowdy bar patrons) defend themselves/break chairs over peoples heads?

Always worked for me!

Hmm I have this Massive Greatsword, this 80 pound mace made of steel or my fists. I'll use my hands! I don't get why people love unarmed so much. There are plenty of fighting games and Fight Night Champion looks amazing if you dig boxing so much. Not a single person on Earth would use their fists over a weapon. Tools seperate us from other animals and allow us to conquer the planet.

Fist fights in town that gave you a minor fine and let you avoid murdering people would rock though. Unarmed as a major skill though is unrealistic and ridiculous.

Nirn is different.

Because guns equal long range weapawn and swords = close range weapawn. Hope this helps.

I can't tell if Pete's comment was sarcasm or not. I assume it was, but he didn't further comment on the topic, which means nothing but stated for the record, that and the direction of Skyrim's combat seems to suggest a more serious system. Hand to hand shouldn't work in a battle against a dragon. I personally don't mind if it's not a skill. Hand to hand should be limited to bar fights, store owners defending their stores, etc. Fisted combat will likely be in, but I have a doubt they'll add it as a skill or a fighting style against dragons or fierce foes.

With that said they should still overhaul the system. It should rely on stamina again as in Morrowind. But behave in a more realistic way. Study boxing and mma and how even when a fighter seems to be out, they recover and are able to put on a good show. So it shouldn't just be a downhill battle. They need a recovery system in place as well as the 1-3 hit knockouts. Maybe even have differences between jab/cross(button tap) or haymaker(button held) Jab would be more technical and take more shots but be safer. And haymaker which leaves you exposed but could end the fight if the opponent isn't blocking. Maybe even add liver shots into the mix, when a person is blocking, the liver is exposed and a nice hook(or jab due to limitations) would possibly take them down. They could even do different punch techniques by using the direction buttons. Left/right+attack = hook. Forward+attack = superman punch. Backwards+attack = fleeing jab lol Many possibilities.

You know, the article confirms nothing about unarmed combat. "Hand to hand" can also just mean "melee" or "close quarters". And considering the rest of that section, I'm pretty sure that was the sense they were using it in. However, it's still ridiculous to believe unarmed combat won't be in the game.

If hand to hand isnt' redone and made useful to use than I'm all for getting rid of it. It's been useless in the 3 TES games I've played, it needs to be fixed.

Obviously they will let you punch people. They just won't have a skill for it. It will be governed by Strength i suppose.

So it'll automatically be weaker than using a weapon and won't be a viable option for defending yourself throughout the game? Like a last resort sort of thing? If that happens, I'll cry. I want the option to use h2h as my primary combat style.

GI did a 3 page artcile on combat.. and there was no mention of hand to hand. I loved being able to get into fist fights with people. Its so much fun being able to have a brawl in town isntead of using weapons.

The Dunmer using hand to hand in Seyda Neen(Morrowind) was memorable for me since it was an early quest. And I think the city Bravil had a fight club in Oblivion?

It would be great if the devs decided to put it back.. Maybe we could fight hand to hand with no weapons in town, and not get is so much trouble with people. I mean it's Skyrim with Nords, who drink alot right? :)

"Bethesda wants to restore the visceral nature of hand-to-hand combat. " That's what they said on the first page...so I don't know how you missed it.

But they took out the attributes, so this seems unlikely.

I guess it will be based on your level, for example a formula like "Hand-to-Hand damage = 5 + Player Level".

It does make sense in a way. Indiana Jones was mostly the type of hero who used a pistol (and a whip, of course), yet he could still knock out enemies of around his "level" with one punch if necessary.

You know, punching people who have swords and armor is really not a good tactic. Hand to hand is a last resort, or just for training/pointless fun beating people.

I am not sure that it is gone but is still included and they will have 1 armor skill. if they do include it then the perks may make it a more useful skill.
My guess if Hand to hand skill is gone, you still can punck people. They will just use a formula that links to your strength or level to decide the damage you do, (base damage + 1/4 point per level = damage done)
