Cyclone Yasi

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 4:46 am

I'm dissapointed in how this thread is not about Cyclone Yias. :(

Meanwhile, in Victoria we have mild flooding in the central areas, we've already had out heat wave (tad over 40 on day one and 30s yesteraday. Cool change came in yesterady arvo). We're cool.

Somehow, I doubt this one will have a Hello Kitty avatar.

I'm expecting more heat within a week or so :(. Fortnight, tops.

An absolute monstrous cyclone, I probably won't be able to access the internet or have power for a while

I saw that - HOLY MOLY, that storm is huge! We're currently being hammered by one of the biggest blizzards in decades ourselves - and hoping our power holds.

Buckle down and stay safe JagarTharn. I'll be thinking of you and my fellow Queenslander's in the path of this monster. As someone else said, make sure you post to let us know you came through OK when the worst is over.

Currently at my brother's house because the power's still out at our's, luckily we got through the cyclone without any damage, but in the thunderstorms afterwards we got hit by lightning twice, hopefully all our stuff didn't get fried.

Its now http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDD20040.txt (have a look at the Bureau of Meteorology's http://www.bom.gov.au/products/national_radar_sat.loop.shtml). Fortunately it's no longer tropical, unfortunately its causing http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/wild-weather-wreaks-havoc-on-victoria-20110205-1ah7p.html in Victoria. Given that we already got a goddam inland sea in the last round of flooding, this batch* of rain is not going to help matters :(.

*Originally misspelled that as "bath of rain"... which probably fits at least as well :P.

Anyone else find it amazing that no one (or very few) have been actually killed by it? Wasn't Katrina also a Cat 5? :P I know there might be some other variables into the mix, but still ironic.

Also, I wish the OP best of luck.
