[RELz] Vurt's Solstheim Tree Replacer II

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 1:05 pm

Vurt's
Solstheim Tree Replacer II

Features:

* .esp-less tree replacer for the Solstheim region.

Installation:

Copy "Data files" to your /Morrowind folder.

If there's such a thing as "speed modding" i guess this mod would fit that category :) so let me know of any bugs - missing textures / collision issues etc. Very little testing has been done.

I said it before but you are a modding machine, so many modders alway say stuff like I don't have much time or real life is getting in the way(not a knock on other modders btw). Somehow or another this does not affect you! All the better for us players.

I like these trees a lot better than the older ones vurt, nice work. :goodjob:

Haven't checked them out in game, but I looked at them all in the CS. All of the trees worked fine with no missing texture issues or anything. It would be nice to have the polly counts reduced if its possible without effecting the quality overly much though. The trees flora_tree_BM_04, flora_tree_BM_07, and flora_tree_BM_snow_06 all have polly counts above 4,000 in particular, which makes them all roughly about 1,000 pollies higher than the rest - just thought that was sort of odd.

For trees to look good / "full" in the distance with MGE you have to double the leaves planes, one side with flipped normals. I only did it to a few that looked especially bad in the distance, so its probably those trees, usually i do this for every tree so this mod is very low poly compared to most of my other mods. I wish it was possible to fix this for MGE, it would really make my mods more performance friendly..

I think i should probably run the trees through PolygonCruncher once, it usually does a pretty good job, sometimes reducing size with as much as 50% witout noticeable quality loss.

Will you be making trees that are broken, rotted or cut? I think it would add much more realism, giving it that feel that loggers/woodcutters have been through there and/or storms came through and knocked some down.

The image from TESV Skyrim has a couple that are like that. I believe you can show up those BGS guys, Vurt! It wouldn't be too big of a challenge, would it?

I made a compromise and made some trees a quite withered and 1 that is partially dead, but sure, in the additional .esp i can put in dead trees etc. I'm not prioritizing that .esp right now though, there are some other things i'm working on that i want to complete first.

That's cool; there's no hurry at all. If I remember correctly, aren't there vanilla trees that are chopped off at the base so just the stump is left? I haven't played Bloodmoon in a while. If there aren't any, tree stumps would also be wonderful to see.

Yesterday I was a passager in a car ride to a town about 35 mins away from mine. I kept a look out for Blue Spruce along the way, I ended up see quite a few(35 or 40 at least). And most had there branches tilting down, it seemed the ones that had the branches tilting up were much shorter and I assume much younger. The older taller ones looked a lot like your standard pines(like the ones I mentioned that was next to the blue spruce). So I think just changing the green to a blue on your trees would be all you would need to do(to get one with a good model). Of course realistically only the outer part of the tree is blue and depending how dense it is you can normal see the some of the inner green, but doing that would be more work.

How about were you live, can you see blue spruce?

No, there are no blue spruces in Sweden, there are plantations where they grow them, they're very popular as christmas trees.

Making the inner part green is easy, it's just a matter of changing the hue on the texture and it's done in no-time.

I know they are native to Colorado and the nearby states of the U.S but there a popular decoration tree in the US, I live in CT(on the east coast, not far from New York) and I see them all the time. Mostly in peoples front yards. But out in the woods too, here and there.

Thats cool to here about the green, I mean you can't really see unless you get close(well some you can, but I think the more blue ones look better) but its cool if you do it. So are you planing to use one of those other models for it?

Canada is really beatiful, looks quite a bit like norway in most pictures i've seen of it. Brazil was amazing to visist, lots of cool trees and plants there that i've never seen before in pictures or in movies.

Kefka: i still think i make a new model for it, but i don't know yet. If you've got a good picture of the kind of blue spruce you want then post it, i can sample it's color in photoshop and i can look at the shape to see if it fits any of my current trees.

I could not find a large pic on google, here is a http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://sheltontreefarm.net/imgs/trees/blue%2520spruce/1.jpg&imgrefurl=http://sheltontreefarm.net/varieties.php&h=250&w=250&sz=21&tbnid=9KsPbufx73LyRM:&tbnh=111&tbnw=111&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dblue%2Bspruce%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=blue+spruce&usg=__e9UQ13rKyzhaGJDv0PijkamUUJQ=&sa=X&ei=UlSbTcXrKZO2tgef0PDGBw&ved=0CEMQ9QEwBQ

And here is another small pic of the color I was thinking of. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.pruittslittlefarm.com/images/blue_spruce_close_up.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.pruittslittlefarm.com/Tree_Types.html&h=336&w=448&sz=38&tbnid=XpBZYJLPD_ibxM:&tbnh=95&tbnw=127&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dblue%2Bspruce%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=blue+spruce&usg=__OrCo70nAlNhUmkSsLeh9zm-s_IY=&sa=X&ei=UlSbTcXrKZO2tgef0PDGBw&ved=0CD8Q9QEwAw

A note about the 3 trees in the pic, the tallest one I think looks the best, also those are younger trees. An older tree would have a longer trunk and the branches would just start a little higher up,similar to most of your other models for evergreens.
