New to Morrowind mods

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:58 am

Hey whats up. I'm starting up Morrowind again for the second time because long ago I just couldn't stand the game but I want to give it a second try. Now I'm a graphics [censored], I CANNOT stand the graphics in Morrowind, i can't stand the textures on the NPC's, and basicly i'm looking for the best texture overhauls out there to improve basicly everything. I'm looking for anything that will drastically improve the way the game looks, i have a good computer so it doesn't matter how good the texture pack is, i just want the best out there.

Secondly, what are some good mods that improve gameplay mechanics, like leveling and spellcasting, etc. Just w/e would be great.

Thirdly, is Silgrad Tower for Morrowind and the Tamriel Rebuilt project compatible? As far as i know, they're both just huge land adding mods.

Fourth, any good unoffical patches out? Other than that, i'm just looking for some awesome mods for morrowind, so thanks to those who help me out. it's alot easier asking here instead of looking through endless websites being overwhelmed by thousands of mods.

Well i can lead you in the right directions for graphics if your computer has good specs.

this was a few pages back, but i saw it earlier today.

thread: http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1022678

It basically makes morrowind have oblivion graphics, so you could no longer complain about graphics.

BUT, the installer is down because of bug, they released it today anyways, but itll only be a day before its up.
AND, it's in itallian. Just the installer, the game will still be in english, so you could google translate the
site like i did and wing it on the installer when it gets fixed, or wait for the english installer to come
out, which shouldn't be to long.

I would read the thread first, but heres the website.

Website: http://www.morrowindoverhaul.com/

Happy Morrowinding (i guess thats it?)

Hey cool thanks bro, i will check that out. Does that retexture just the game or does it do NPCs, armor, clothing, etc. ? Like i said, i'm pretty much trying to make my game into a complete overhaul lol. Are there any good weather overhauls on another note? I'm just basicly looking for the best graphical improvements out there. Also, how do I load mods onto morrowind? Is it different from Oblivion? i found a morrowind mod manager on tesnexus so i think i'll use that..

Do people not do their own searching at all before making these threads? I had no problem stumbling across Better Bodies and the like on my own

On a different note, is the person using MGE/ENBSeries in http://www.morrowindoverhaul.com/gallery/006.jpg screenshot or did they just touch it up in Photoshop? I've never seen it look so smooth and soft before. Granted, Morrowind crashes if I try to enable antialiasing, so that may be part of the issue :P

It basically from what i see, retextures everything.
Heres a gallery on the website.

http://www.morrowindoverhaul.com/gallery.html

You can sift through that. Haha
As for weather, im not sure how that will work with that mod, or if the mod already has improved weather, so you'll just ave to experiment weather mods with that graphical mod, if you plan on using it.
And for loading mods into Morrowind, basically mods have little esps to make them work, and they wont show in the game unless you enable them. As for enabling them, thats simply when you first start morrowind, you have that screen that shows up with play, data files, etc.

This for me. http://home.insightbb.com/~gime/manual2_files/image021.jpg

You just go to data files, and double click on the mod that you downloaded, and it will show up in the game.
Heres a tutorial i found that might help, even though i havent read it. =P

http://korana.elricm.com/Tutorials.htm

Hope it helps.

Edit: For Lucien
That is not MGE, but a completely different italian graphics overhaul, you can read more in the thread i posted above.
As for the graphics of that mods, they're probably running it at its max settings.
I can wait for the installer to be fixed. haha

Excuse me, first off, you don't have to be a dike. Do you take me for some sort of idiot? I did search, for quite some time now. You have to keep in mind that not everyone seems to have the amazing search powers that you do.

EDIT: Just read your post Pillar. i appreciate the time you took to help, i'll deffinatly be downloading that texture pack :)

You welcome Mr.Ini, even though i would suggest not to bash other people on the forums, because you never know when you might need they're help. Haha, Just saying.
And really the only reason i don't like Morrowind, is because of the graphics, so i cant wait for the installer to come back up. Haha

In order:

@Pillar3721- Really, I had gotten the impression that the overhaul was just a compilation of other mods. Obviously the author threw in some visual trickery as well :D Color me excited.

@Mr. Inappropriate- <_< I Googled "Morrowind mods." From there, you can find dozens exactly like this one, lists of mods categorized for your convenience, and Planet Elder Scrolls is literally the first thing on that search. It doesn't take "amazing search powers." And I apologize for coming across as rude, but you don't seem to realize how many of these threads, all searching for exactly the same thing, seem to crop up DAILY. It gets very old.

Agreed. I honestly hate the route that modern games have taken, where characters are built off a series of sliders. What it ultimately ends with is everyone looking identical, or utterly hideous. I love Morrowind's graphics (especially with the overhauls :D) because each face has so much character and looks so different than its counterparts within the race. This is why Morrowind's graphics, even without mods, will always be better than Oblivion's in my eyes.

Like I said in my above posts, I'm not going to take the time to read and look through thousands upon thousands of Morrowind mods when I could just come to the forums here and find a quick answer instead of wasting a couple hours when I could be playing. Sorry for inconveniencing you so much, because you were totally forced against your will to read my topic and reply to it.

But to the people who are helping me I do appreciate it and it makes things a whole lot easier for me.

Well, I was going to post something about your quoted post above on how it's very befitting of your name, but thought better of it. Oh wait, I just did :P

[/sarcasm]

Lucien does have a very valid point though. The same questions in your OP are asked daily around here. I helped http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1024353&hl= just earlier today on this matter and I posted the following...

There's plenty of similar threads floating around on these forums. Using "recommended" and "essential" in http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?act=Search&f=12 will pull up many more threads on this same subject.

http://www.mwmythicmods.com/telesphoros.htm, http://www.mwmythicmods.com/themes.htm and http://www.mwmythicmods.com/realism.htm have many great mods.

Read my above post please. Like I said, you aren't forced to help me, so really... Really dude? Was your post really needed? Sorry, but i'm just looking for help and answers yet i'm greeted with this instead. Please stop flooding my topic with posts like "oh the same threads like this one are posted every day"... well, you aren't forced to read or answer to them.

I gotta say, (well, not really, but who cares anyways huh lol) I have no problem with 500,000 of these topics popping up. Of course it gets a tad annoying when someone asks the question over and over but looking at it from their perspective-they DONT see how many times its asked. I see it alot like sales, every inquirer is a potential buyer, in our case a possible future modder. Instead of getting edgy, which will accomplish absolutely nothin, its ten times more productive to act mushy and open and redirect them to these other threads with ease, and ask em in your post if they are interested in learning to mod. I came to Morrowind to play mods, not mod and now I mod. Take into mind that route can happen for anybody who stumbles through here and theyll be making the mods that you might end up dling.

All in all, get irrated, get frustrated, and go punch your little brother or something lol. But when you post in here understand you can easily turn it around to your own benefit. Just my 2 cents.

@ zackg: Some good points, but I'm not butt-hurt over this. Sure, I posted something that may or may not be taken seriously, but in this case it seems to have been taken very seriously. And I did just that as well, I opened him up to some other threads and even websites that can help Mr. Ina on his way to a better Morrowind experience.

@ Mr. Inappropriate: Sorry about that, forgot the [sarcasm] [/sarcasm] tags again

No, none of us are forced to help you, but that's what some of us try to do around here. If you can't accept the help being offered in whatever form it comes in, I don't know what to tell you then. Apologies if you took my post as being "inappropriate", was not my intention. These are the Interwebs, nothing should be taken with a grain of salt or whatever :)

You stated you hated MW graphics, others have posted links to help remedy that. I gave you some useful links for your "essential" needs and a thread that's dedicated to texture replacers. Enjoy.

Silgrad Tower will conflict with TR maps 4 and 5 if I am remembering correctly. It doesn't conflict with any of our (Tamriel Rebuilt's) current releases though.

If you replied to MY topic, of course I'm going to read it no matter how insignificant and foolish it may be. Now, enough with the sarcastic pr?ck charade, you're obviously not a valuable member of these forums and you have nothing to contribute to this topic. So please, take your ridiculous and time wasting posts elsewhere.

Anyways, welcome to the world of Morrowind Mods, Mr. Inappropriate. Have a customary http://www.mwmythicmods.com/fishy.htm Yes, that is a serious and helpful link :P

You said it yourself, "thousands upon thousands". That is true. There's a plethora of Morrowind mods out there just waiting to be downloaded. You're going to be extremely limited on what mods you come across if all you plan to do is come to these forums and ask for them. The mods that get referenced here on the forums are the de facto "latest-craze" mods.

You'll never experience more than a handful of all the Morrowind mods just by hanging around these forums. The websites I linked you to earlier are a good place to start to find some very good and solid mods. Yes, you will have to search. You will have to read through them. But, it's how you can find some gems and other mods that may have been forgotten about, but are gems themselves.

EDIT: Cripes! Didn't see Mr. Ina's post above this one while writing it. I'm taking my Fishystick back!

I made my contribution, I directed you to that most famous, far-reaching, all-encompassing (and free) resource, Google. As for not being a valuable member of these forums, I'll admit I'm no connary or Westly, but I think I get by.

EDIT: Why is [censored] censored when I say it, but not when Mr. Inappropriate does?

EDIT II: Oh, I see. He put an accent on the i to avoid the censor. Well-played, sir. But the time it took to add that accent could have been time you spent playing Morrowind, doncha know! ;)

Return to III - Morrowind
