Fast travel is included in the game against the majority of player's opinions of it as a gambit to make it easier for reviewers, who have a limited time to review the game, to give this a high score. This high score leads to more sales.
Like I said, just a theory, but do you think it holds any truth?

No need for conspiracy theories really. The simple fact is that Bethesda's main target group belongs more or less to the younger generation of gamers, who grew up playing action/fps console games and have no previous experience with any of the RPGs that came out in the 90s. It is only natural that they have a different concept as to what RPGs are and how immersion and fast travels should work compared to players who have been around before 3d graphics and the like. I'm not saying this is a bad or a good thing, just that times are changing and companies are adapting to the demands of the market.
