Is FNV the end?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 1:04 pm

So I know there are rumors of Fallout 4 being released in the future, but I have not heard anything definite on the subject. Games like Halo can't be made for very long, as the story eventually ends, but for the Fallout series, it is endless right. I really hope Bethesda and/or Obsidian make Fallout games for many more years to come, it is such a mind-blowing series and it comes to as close to life-changing as a video game can be. I remember the first time I got FO3 and I was just stunned by the depth and just pure fun of the game, not to mention the atmosphere and everything.

They have so much room to make more games, you could go to Canada, Commonwealth, Europe, the South, the North, possibilities are endless and it would not get repetitive as the Fallout canon is so vast and strong. So what do you guys think, should there be more Fallouts and are there plans for other Fallout games(and i dont mean small MMORPG, i mean full sized FO3, FNV-type games)

There are more states to cover, and worse comes to worse, you can go to the tip of Mexico or Canada. It will stick around a while longer.

if I may be cynical for a Moment, Bethesda is an American company and if there's one thing American companies do is release sequels until the series is completely dead.

However, BGS is not an Activision or EA studio, so therefore they will (and have) let franchises lay fallow for a bit.

Morrowind? 2002. Oblivion? 2006. Skyrim? 2011. 4-5 years apart. The Elder Scrolls franchise is hardly being milked dry, like, say Call of Duty.

I think we will see more Fallout games, this is not the end of the series.

IMO: It would've made more sense to, from the get go, change locations as the series progresses with a much lower timespan between each individual game. I think that would've helped to extend the longetivity of the series as well as the believabilty factor even into FO3; which set 200 some years after the bombs fell... and people are still eating pre war food, wearing pre war clothes, and smoking pre war cigarettes. Not very believable if you ask me, but then Bethesda are not the ones that made that decision to develop the series in this manner. They do not however, have to continue following that trend.

Well i can say to you this...i think for sure that there will be another one. But they cant go so far though...eventually society will rebuild itself to what it once was and then there cant be anymore Fallout's since its no long "fallout"

@ Terror thats why they need to use the skyrimm engine..

I think your either crazy or never pay much attention to FO related news. Bethesda even said after FO 3 was released that they will make another one and wouldn't have gone to the trouble of getting the rights to the FO series if they weren't planing on it. Also in respose to the post about the time between games: Bethesda has clearly become a much larger dev since then (as evident by the releases of brink, rage, skyrim, hunted, and F:NV all within a years time and all either deved or published by them. Oblivion and FO have clearly made them enough to grow substantially,as all 4 of those releases most likely will as well, since they all look awesome!). I'd expect FO4 to be out by 2013 or 2014 (becuase FO3 came out two years after oblivion, now skyrim two-three years later. I get the impression that they are probably using that same team, doing an TES game, then a FO game, then back. Who knows, maybe with the success of NV they will get a company to dev a spin off in between every major game so it will go something like this: Skyrim, 1-2yrs, TES spin-off, 1-2 yrs FO4, FO spin-off, TES6, ect. I know this would put FO4 closer to 2015, so It might end up being a game every year instead. You also have to take into consideration that skyrim also needed longer to make a new engine and I think they had to make a new one for oblivion as well, so assuming FO4 uses the same engine, it will be less time for them to make it).

Edit: b4 someone makes an irritated post, yes I know that FO:NV is canon and thus not a spin-off, but you know what I mean

Bethesda made way too much money on Fallout 3 to let this franchise die. You will see another Fallout. Hopefully with a brand new, well done engine.

yeah the ol' gamebryo engine has run its course... good run tho From Morrowind to FNV basically, not bad for an engine. Creation engine will most likely be featured in F4.

Eh, when Fallout runs its course, they'll just make a new series with a new timeline.
