Let's write poems about cliffracers!

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 9:40 am

Ok, I'll start.

Oh cliffracer,
oh cliffracer,
why do you swarm on top of me?

Oh cliffracer,
oh cliffracer,
I wish you had the sense to flee.

My trusty bow arm grows so tired.
I wish these birds would all retire.

Oh cliffracer,
oh cliffracer,
oh how I wish swift death on thee!

Who else would like to write a poem about cliffracers? If I get enough good ones, I'll stick them in a book and put them in my mod (with proper accreditation of course). :)

Ok, one more before bed:

The cliffracer is long in snout,
and has a pointy tail.

It likes to swoop down from above,
and rain on you like hail.

The cliffracer prefers to swarm.
It's worse than fighting ash-filled storms.

If we don't kill them fast enough,
their numbers will prevail.

Then if you want to write poetry, let's put this in the Fan Fiction Forum.

your annoying roar keeps comin in
until i gut him and be done with him

i enter the editor to delete your existance
because killing 400 of you takes too much persistance

especially when you respawn without end
into oblivion, you worthless hen.
the end.

Here's my crack at imagism:

The racer's wings beat against the flying ash
Screeching, the horde descends.

The Blight of Resdaynia

Upon the road to Urshilaku, Incarnate
Will you find a foe whose flight darkens the ash surrounding

Whose folly it is to hold fast your path, regardless
What more than surely a plague of Dagoth Ur, confound him!

Soon the rattles of their demise no longer comfort the heart
As one falls to join the earth more do follow, ere long they too depart

But rest assured along this path there lie many dangerous foes
For if the prophecy is to be fulfilled, you may once more find love

Love for they who race the high cliffs of old.

----

That's my effort. The rhythm flails a little towards the end, but i kind of like it. :)

This is fantastic!

My rhymes are childish by comparison. I suppose that's alright if I'm imagining them being written by simple townsfolk who are just sick to death of bloody cliffracers. Yours on the other hand, is the work of a great bard! :)

Thankyou Stuporstar. I liked yours too, it has a solid quality to it, and XxHavokxX's opening line has made me laugh everytime i read it. Just pure expression.

My Cliffracer haiku:

Cliffracers soaring,
so many they drown the sun,
an endless horde waits.

A series of Haiku, by Galms Heleran, Buoyant Armiger of House Redoran:

Walking down the road
a shrill shriek from foulest hell
ruins my sojourn

---

Hated cliffracer
bane of all that's good and true
choke on glass arrow

---

Praise be to St. Jiub
shirtless saint of skill and wit
he silenced their squawks

----

Bravery and wit
have won back the Morrowind
shame about the rats

Cliffracer, why is it the sky you dwell,
you make my life a living hell.
You stream across the sky,
i know my death is neigh
oh cliffracer, your eradication must persist,
and we know you wont resist.

Like locusts you swarm
Consuming all before you
Bane of the Dragon

Haiku seems to be the way to go for cliffracer poems, right guys?

I'm liking these all so far.

Do you think they have Haiku in the Elder Scrolls universe? Perhaps it's a Redguard thing? ;)

That one is my favourite so far. :D

Bring on the Limbericks!

There was once a young man from Vivec
Who liked to shoot cliff racers through the head
At first they all parted
then all of them started
to hunt the young man 'till he was dead.

If I think of more I will so add them :D

Maybe Akaviri. Most poems you see in-Universe tend to be free-verse prose poems, though.

So is there a general conformity of which races tend more towards specific writing styles?

Yeah, it's kind of unfortunate that the devs did it that way because it was probably just easier, when most poetry before the 20th century here on earth stuck to structures of rhyme and meter, mainly because it was a useful way of making the poetry memorable. You'd think the ancient poets of Nirn would at least do something lyrical. ;)

I don't think there is in the actual game. But perhaps some general writing styles could be guessed based on the general character of the race and the real races they're slightly based on.

Right. My preferred race is Khajiit, and i'm almost always a thief/assassin/both character when playing any RPG. I'm thinking of attributing the poem i wrote for this thread and some others i plan to do - though not all about cliff racers ;) - to a Khajiit thief-come-poet. Does that sound too unlikely for a character from the lore-history of Tamriel? I'd like to make it as genuine as possible.

I don't think that sounds too unlikely. I think the Khajiit can be far more eloquent than they are usually given credit for.

Halfy, thou hast inspired me! Of course this only works if Jiub is actually pronounced Jee-oob... but, oh well, let's give it a shot!

There once was an elf named Jiub,
Whose chest was devoid of moob,
Came in on a ship,
Gave the guards a slip,
Then killed all my cliffracers, the noob! :(

(For those of you unfamiliar with 'moob', google it! Just don't use image search when you do)

Telltale squawking
Leathery wings and sharp beaks
Another long wait
