poor merchants!

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 2:42 am

Recently i've gotten OOO to enchance my gameplay in oblivion. I was really looking forward to the living economy that was an added bonus to it, and especially excited when i started seeing that would sell for more than 10k drop :D

Then i saw the vendors. Why in gods name are they so broke?! I don't really understand what the point of adding something like Mannimarco's Robe into the game, which sells for 46000 at 100%, when most merchants only have 3000~ gold with them. I've even trained mercantile up to 100 in hopes that it would get somewhat better, but nothing really improved :(

Could someone please clue me in on some kind of way to sell things for what they are actually worth? I hate going from town to town having to sell my dungeon loot just because some poor freakin' shop owner can't afford my stuff!

LE and EE (Enhanced Economy) are both meant for immersion and realistic role-plaing, so it is plain normal to not have infinite amounts of gold available.

However, I believe both (EE for sure) have an option to increase the maximum merchants money. Increasing it will help you sell your items at a reasonable rate, but you will end up with way too much gold (which can not be spend, since merchants do not sell anything of high value).

Eh, i guess im okay with not having 300k gold ^.^ It does make the game more realistic.

I just wish stuff wouldn't be worth so much; to sell stuff that is worth like 50k i have to keep moving the slider to like 2% so i can actually have money on the merchant left over for my other stuff!

There are quite a few merchants out there that will buy your loot, tho ;)

Usually when I am done doing some dungeon crawling, I have to visit ALL major cities, and rest several days to sell everything I collected. It is part of the game, but it adds up to be honest. There are ways to get 100% of your items-worth back, but that falls in the category "cheating" - which I hate, so I won't point you towards it.

The high prices are a side-effect. The purpose of it is to increase the cost to you of enchanting items...but their value to merchants increases as well.

If you lower the price to merchants, then enchanting becomes cheaper.

The one good fix to this is Enhanced Economy. It can dramatically lower the value of items and enchantments, but it only does it while in the barter menu, so it doesn't mess up the raised enchanting costs.

Thanks for the replys. I guess i'll just have to be more patient with the game :P

Now that i think about it, i really don't spend my money on practically anything. The only thing that comes to mind is the 5 levels towards speechcraft every level :D

In EE, it is as easy as editing the line "set tnoEE.base_multiplier to 1" in the ini. Change the "1" to "1,5" and all merchants will have 50% more gold.

But as mentioned, EE has several ways to decrease the value of items. Maybe the simplest is to just edit the ini and set the merchants to pay much less for your goods. It also has a way to decrease the amount of enchanted loot found. IMHO, OOO (and other mods) add way too much enchanted loot.

Almost right, but EE also lower it when having the inventory meny or any container menu open, so you'll most often see the reduced price.

Hmm, I think it′s pretty realistic that if an unique, powerful item is found it′s much more valuable than any common merchant can pay a full price for. Why would they be automatically able to afford something like that? :)

There are many items in the real world to which there′s a very high nominal value, but only a few people can afford them, and even then would probably never be willing to pay the full value. Yet the high value is "real".

Well, since you can enter any random cave and come out with 10 or so such items, they're not exactly that unique... :P
