Nightfall On Tamriel

After several months of absence, I have finally come up with a good RP Idea. Good to finally come over Writers Block. Here it is:

4 Years after the Oblivion Crisis

The empire couldn’t hold up on its own after being beaten by the Oblivion Crisis and was its back was broken with the ensuing famine that ensued from the crisis. The Elder Council and Ocato were flooded with problems faster than they could address them, and the Imperial legion was spread thin and suffering from rebellions from the Orcs. The orcs demanded independence, so they could get supplies and help for themselves without having to go through the imperial government. The empire refused, and the Orcs rebelled.

The war that ensued was short but bloody, leaving the legion crippled. The empire needed some sort of military strength to maintain other nations that were teetering on rebellion. The empire turned to two guilds: The mages and fighters guild. The mages guild refused, and the empire threatened to outlaw the guild if they didn't. The next day, when a diplomat attempted to make a deal with the guild, the mages guild destroyed the university in an explosion and the guild went underground.

The fighter’s guild, though, saw the request as an opportunity and happily obliged to be the strong arm of the empire. Many citizens cried out, though, saying giving the "Guild Ruffians" a seat so close to the emperor Ocato was insulting, and many demanded the empire stop.

The council, seeing that this was a good point, decided to get rid of 75% of fighter's guild leadership and replace them with Legion Officers. The guild master was put as a second in command to the Legion Commander. Some of the guild leaders evicted were glad to walk out, others fought to the death over it. Most, though, formed other mercenary groups, ranging from marauders to noble paladins. Most, though, fell in the middle.

Following fighters guild example, these smaller merc guilds became the strong arm of the people, and soon most militaries used hired mercs for military needs.

This, oddly, created an odd peace for the empire, allowing it, after four long years, to finally be able to rebuild. The economy was up from revenue from the guilds. People were happy that the empire was finally able to use the guilds to get hinges done with the empire. All seems quiet.

But, in Tamriel, nothing is as quiet as it seems.

“Stone's Mercenary Company. Good company. Get the job done. They operate out of the abandoned Mages guild hall in Anvil. Led by a Dunmer ex fighter’s guild, Farlon “Stone” Rezar. Call him stone because he seems unbreakable under pressure.”

The council man slid the paper across the table to his Altmer comrade. “Of course, he's ex-guild. We’ve heard the whole ‘unbreakable’ thing too many times. Are you sure these guys will get the job done?”
The man across the table from him nodded. “These guys rooted out three marauder companies out of a fort for much less. They’re good. Some of the best there is. Hell, even better than the damn Fighters Guild.”

“But 2 million gold for their leader? And 500,000 gold to each subsequent member? Are you purposely trying to bankrupt the empire? And al they are doing is sailing to the summerset, meeting with the diplomats, going to raid an old ‘haunted’ ruin for an artifact, and bring it back. If the people get wind of this, they won’t like it. We could loose our councilman positions. Is it worth it?”

Thunder cracked outside, and the Altmer jumped. “Scared? The imperial asked.

“Bad memories as a kid. Lost a brother to a storm.” The Altmer said as he exhaled deeply.

The imperial shrugged “It happens. I’m sorry for your loss. But we have to do it. That ‘artifact’ holds dark secrets. Bad ones. The empire is already teetering on collapse now, finally getting back up. We don’t get this before someone else does?”

“Whatever you say.” The Altmer says. “It’s your head. I was never here. Did they get the contract?”

“Stone already knows. And I sent a messenger to the guild hall. It should be getting there about now. Good messenger, good, strong, fast horse. And he’s a lizard, they like the rain. This will be over in less than two weeks.”

“What does the note say?” The Altmer asked.

“Same this I told you. The amount of money per person, That they need to sail to Summerset, Talk to an ambassador and get permission to actually go in the ruin, go in, get the artifact, and come back. Deliver it before two weeks time, and poof. Done. Easy.”

“When you say it’s easy, it never is.”

Lighting flashed and thunder boomed so loud the Altmer leapt out of his seat. The Imperial looked back at the paper, and sighed. He buried his face into his hand.

“It never is.”

Good RP Idea? Comments? Concerns? Compliments? Please, explain them before I post this up as an official RP. I will put up a char sheet format soon.

I would be interested. However, I'll need more info.

I guess we will be assuming the roles of these treasure-hunting mercenaries?

Sounds like a good RP. I like the basis, and I like the set up. Can't see any flaws, but there might be some.

Correct. It's simple and keeps the players together while giving them freedom in thier Character design somewhat. I don't want to be juggling several groups of RPers at a time. It's fun, true, but often one group gets ignored and the other groups slowly collaborate to make a big group and an ignored group. I've seen it happen too often.

Anyways, heres the character sheet format for everyone.

Character sheet format:

PLEASE PM CHARACTER SHEETS FOR APPROVAL BEFORE POSTING THEM! The actual RP thread will start once I get a few sheets in. I'll post up mine later today.

Name: Farlon "Stone" Rezar
Race: Dunmer
Gender: Male
Age: 39
Class: Fighter

Height and Weight: 6'5", 160 pounds
Skin color: Light, Pale blue
Eye color: Red
Hair color: Auburn
Physical Description: Tall and lean, like most elves. And also like Many Mer, his thin appearance hides strong muscles.
Facial Description: Farlon's gaunt checks and long nose gives him, at first glance, a sickly appearance. His thin lips are sometimes hidden under his short beard. His short military style hair gives him a professional fighter's look. His deep set eyes give him a look of wisdom of a seasoned leader.

Weapon: An Ebon Longsword, inherited from his Father
Armor: Steel Armor and steel shield
Other Gear: 30 gold, a signet ring worn by his father, A red strip of cloth he wears around his forehead as a token of luck.

Bio: Farlon was seemingly born into the guild business. His father was a hero of the fighter's guild, legendary for holding back a bandit company by himself. His mother kept care of the fighter's guild members, often holding dinner for the members of the guild. Farlon's young head was filled with stories of glory and battle through these men, and his respect for them was greater than any other of the boys in the town. Farlon, more than anything else, wanted to be one of these men.

When he turned eighteen, first thing he did was join up with the anvil branch of the fighter's guild, of which his father was in command of. Farlon worked up the ranks, even reaching the rank of Defender. At 27, He met a Dunmer woman, Keli, of which he fell in love with and married.

When the Oblivion Crisis came, He led a group of men to hold back a horde of daedra from the city while the Champion of Cyrodill closed the gates. It was a long, bloody fight, but Farlon succeeded, and helped save the town of Anvil from hell's threat. He earned his legendary nickname, Stone, from this battle

Soon after his father died, and Farlon became the master of the Anvil branch. Sadly, though, Farlon was dropped from the guild when he disagreed with becoming the imperial strong arm. He wanted the guild to be the voice of the people, not the council's whims.

So, after being dropped, he formed Stones Mercenary Company, and quickly established notoriety from the sea of Merc companies. But Farlon tires of fighting, hoping soon he may retire, and live in peace and raise his newborn son, Galvon.

Personality: Farlon is Intelligent in the ways of battle from years upon years of combat. Outside battle, he remains usually serious, but occasionally jokes with his peers when the opportunity gives itself. In battle, though, he is serious, unshakable, and as hard as a stone. His cold mentality in battle allows him to be skillful and tactical.

Other: none.

Yay, here comes my battery of questions! They might see unnecessary, but I just like to fill in the tiniest holes.

First, you say that the Empire fell mainly due to the awful crisis: famine. How was the famine wrought upon the empire? Did too many farmers parish or was there some kind of virus? Or, god forbid, did the Daedra stomp on the potatoes? (That wasn't a shot at you, by the way) The rebellion of the Orcs seem kind of compulsory, but Orcs have a short fuse so it is defiantly understandable. But is it related to anyway to the Oblivion Crisis in any way, or was it just bad timing?

Honestly, the number of the Imperial Legion doesn't seem like they would be "crippled" from the Orcish Rebellion. Orsinium isn't a massive country, it's just a city (from my small understanding of High Rock and the Corrupted Elves). Military strength doesn't seem like it can be found in private guilds. Honestly, I don't think that the entire Fighters' Guild have enough members to populate a legion.

The Guild of Fighters provides employment to free-swords and mercenaries and contracts to local citizens. Citizens may contract with the Guild for the removal of creatures and pests, the delivery of goods on dangerous routes, the collection of beasts for the arenas, and other duties defined by the Guild Stewards.

It just doesn't seem like it would be something the Fighters' Guild would do. The Mages' reaction towards this seems a little over-the-edge, but I could let this go.

The rest of it seems pretty bullet-proof to tell you the truth. It's actually a pretty good idea.

Unfortunatly, I won't be joining. My time is limited as it is, and I already claimed a place in another one. Sorry.
