Post » Tue May 17, 2011 3:53 pm

After going through NV and all dlc, I am going to play through 3 for the first complete time made it to arefu first time a got bored. Although I am going to use fwe, mmm, and a few pretty em up mods.

Any Advice? I am a sniper at heart and tend to side with how ever I am feeling at the time although i like to talk folks out of there caps and goods alot.

is it wise to use the mods first complete playthrough or should I wait and use em next time?

again any advice?

Personally I don't use mods and never have. Partly because I've read horror stories about conflicting mods causing problems, and I don't have the time/ energy to research it all, and also because I'm kind of a purist in that way, that I prefer playing the game as relased.

Mods make the game 10 times better and 10 times dangerous. If you want to live and experience how real fallout 3 should have been , then choose these mods.

"How the game should have been..." This, I think, is an interesting concept that needs definition. "Should have been" according to whom? Is there a "Director's Cut" of Fallout3 that got left on the server? Do you believe that FWE presents the game as it was SUPPOSED to be or just that you like it better? Just because 3 years on there's a fair number of people who have found that they enjoy a more brutal, realistic grind of a game doesn't mean that it's how it SHOULD have been.

Mods were not what made it successful. The game was successful largely on it's merits AS RELEASED (and patched of course). Mods are, however, a big part of what keeps it being played especially by those who have played it a LOT because it DOES alter the game. Fallout3 won its awards in 2008 and 2009, not 2010-2011 before a ton of mods had been made and based NOT on gameplay of those mods but on gameplay as released.

I'm just saying that if the game were "10 times as dangerous" out of the box in 2008 it would likely have been widely rejected as a pointless grind and been just an interesting failure.

YMMV

I don't see any reason why you wouldn't want to play the game as it was originally intended to be played. If you find yourself getting bored or frustrated by the second playthrough, go for it.

I cannot play games with characters who do not interest me and that I do not care about. FO3 is okay without mods as far as game play goes. That's standard for Beth, though. However, Beth makes games that are intended to be played for hundreds of hours. Aesthetically, their character art does not engage me (nor do most Western games, of course).

In addition, Beth intended for their games to be modded or they would not have released construction sets. Saying that the game unmodded is the way it was intended is like saying that they should not have included any options settings, either.

Finally, it is the modding that makes Beth's games so successful. Many people have both PC and console versions of various Beth games to ease comparison. In my case, I anolyze media, so that's another reason that might happen for various people.

You can see that people were making mods almost immediately by checking initial release dates. Of course, a big reason that was possible was because of Morrowind and (even more) Oblivion due to the familiarity with the engine and the various tools for modding/managing mods.

For the OP, I'd suggest starting it normally and when you lose interest/find it to lack engagement for you, start modding. Beth has one of the most active worldwide modding communities of any company, so you should have no trouble finding help for any issues.
