What type of Combat? Unarmed or Melee?

You don't need to fight every bug in the temple. Just try to get past them. If not try kicking. If you have enough action points, kick, if you miss walk away from it as far as you can then end turn. Walk along the walls and keep a look out for pressure plates alone the path. Sharpend poll shoot out of some walls. I try to avoid using healing powder. At the end you will need to fight a guy. Sorry for any spoilers.

At some point you will come across a doorway/wall. Look for a pot, it should have C4.

Yah you can also talk to him with a speech check not to fight.

In all the times playing Fallout 2 I have not tried that. Speech is not that high when I start. I make my characters unarmed fighters at the start because I find it useful for when I am in New Reno and San Francisco. That and ammo and weapons are hard to come by at the start.

Yes i was aware of this also but i always put my speech up because it can be a saver and get you some good dialogue. Your speech has to be high enough though.

I actually did this once, since I couldn't be arsed with the tempel of trials:

I had tagged Speech to talk the "boss" at the end out of the fight.
I ran passed all the bugs the best as I could, if they engaged combat, I got as far away as I could so I could exit combat.
I avoided the pressure plates, be carefull with those.
Found the C4 in that pot to blow up the door (at this stage, I hade lured a huge bunch of bugs with me so I placed the C4 and kind of had to use my turns to avoid bugs till the explosive detonated (save before here, because without any good Explosive skill, the C4 can explode prematurely and kill you)
Get through the hole, meet the guy, talk him out of it, and you are done with the tempel of trials!

Also, easy way to get good in melee and unarmed: There are three guys that will teach you how to fight in unarmed and melee. Two in your tribe, one in Klamath. I got my melee and unarmed up to 100 really quick that way.

Ah yes, the temple. Don't worry bro, it's notoriously hard, so don't forget to save after every kill.

Assuming you haven't tagged unarmed, the temple is a bit of a pain. To avoid getting killed, just hit and run. It's tedious and takes a while, but can save your life if you have to engage in combat. That being said, you can just run through the temple as fast a possible without missing out on anything of much value.

Have you played Fallout 1 before? The combat is pretty much the same albeit somewhat improved.

If you hate the Temple of Trials, you can thank Interplay's Marketing department who insisted on some type of tutorial level.

I'm probably one of the very few who isn't bothered by the Temple of Trials. :P
It nets me an easy levelup and I've done it so many times that I'm kinda past the tedium, it just flows away as part of the game.

I loves me some Fallout 2, I had Adv. Power Armor Mk. 1 at level 3 along with a Bozar. Good times wasting Radscorpions in Klamath.
