Did I really just see the word "punk" without The Ramones mentioned anywhere?

But seriously OP, if you're looking for something new to listen to go buy The Ramones (album) and Rocket To Russia and listen to both of them the whole way through. You can thank me later

I'm part of that strange division who both listens to punk yet dislikes the Ramones . Thanks for the suggestion though.

Iron Maiden - up to Somewhere in Time

Don't rate 'Brave New World' then? I thought that was a beast of a record.

Recently, my favourites have been Porcupine Tree, Mellow Candle, Cheap Trick, Rainbow, Coheed and Cambria, Velvet Underground, The Monks, Pentagram and the ever-present Mothers of Invention.

In no particular order, (but all with links!) here are a few of my faves.

The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hcZ4s9cvpw
I love these guys... Back from a time when music didn't all have to be super serious and horn sections were still the thing. Absolutely hilarious.

Ruins - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKyV5yu_9kA
This song (Hyderomastgroningem) is a classic. These guys are super weird. Tatsuya Yoshida blows my mind, though. A bit of an acquired taste... Although I never see him anymore, thanks to MutantPenguin for introducing me to these guys!

Converge - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIB9Cai5kZ4
These guys take hardcoe to the extremest extreme freakin' ever. However, their music is art at the same time, which is amazing. One of my favorite bands of all time.

Boris - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0396_bsM5eY&feature=related
The absolute variety these guys have in their music is amazing. While this song is like super-distorted Led Zepplin, they've also got songs that are closer to sludge, hardcoe punk, minimalist shoegaze... You name it. Very fun band from Japan!

Deftones
Coheed and Cambria
Coldplay
The Devil Wears Prada
This or the Apocalypse
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Mastodon
Isis
Muse

I feel like there's some good variety there. Some alternative, screamo, metal, hard rock, and good ol' classic 60's!
