Skyrim. Will it be the Game of the Year?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 7:08 am

That's because people are sheep with no taste and don't appreciate underground games such as the Fable series.

I don't appreciate it either. There is no way Fable II deserve any kind of award unless it's Worst Game Of The Year.

Like every game practically, Skyrim will no doubt see subsequent release as a GOTY Edition containing any expansions and/or DLC available for it.

The only explanation for your level of obsession with Fable is that you haven't been playing RPGs for long enough and your standards are naturally low. I sympathise, because there were many, many fantastic games before 3d graphics even came to be. Fable 2/3 were just full of childish gimmicks for the easily impressionable fan, the story and characters were shallow and unimaginative at best, and the lore of the world laughable.

Also, comparing Crysis to TES makes no sense because there are no adequate subjective criteria to compare games of different genres, and the conclusions one would reach by such a comparison would not be of much use to anyone. Its like saying Fifa 11 is a better game than Need for Speed because the player movements are realistic.

But you obviously enjoy the confrontation so I see no point continuing this. To each his own, I hope you enjoyed Fable as much as I enjoyed Baldur's Gate.

Skyrim will most likely be MY Game of the Year, but there are a lot of worthy contenders, such as L.A. Noire, Mass Effect 3, The Last Guardian, Uncharted 3, etc. I don't think Skyrim will walk away with all of the awards like Uncharted 2 did in 2009, nor do I think it will be split between Skyrim and another game like last year with Mass Effect 2 and Red Dead Redemption.

I'd say based on Bethesda's track record alone, Skyrim will be a strong candidate from the get go.

As long as they stick to their core values, and continue to improve upon the commonplace issues needing improvement addressed by the community, we should again be blessed with a fantastic game we'll be able to enjoy for years to come.

:goodjob:

The only advice I would give to Bethesda is learn from some of the mistakes made by other top development teams. Square Enix for one is finally starting to realize they can't rely on the SE name alone to guarantee unbridled loyalty from the fans.

That said, I'm confident in Bethesda's commitment, not only in providing us with another high quality enjoyable gaming experience, but commitment to the community itself.

I can't wait till fall

I am certain that it will receive some GotY awards. However, there are many "contenders" that are threatening Skyrim:
  • Mass Effect 3
  • Dragon Age II
  • Gears of War 3
  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution
  • L.A. Noire
  • Uncharted 3

Just to name a few.

Skyrim is the only game that deserves to win. It has no competition. Unless its totally watered down, which I highly doubt.

Disregarding games that Skyrim can't accurately be compared with (Crysis, Uncharted) Skyrim's only real competition is coming from Bioware. While I am certainly looking forward to and will player DA2 and ME3, both look to be the same as their respective predecessor with only improved graphics and changes in narrative.
Skyrim easily wins.

Many places give out GOTY but there are a few that are respected more. Gameinfomer, and the Spike TV.

Edit: But I have no doubts Skyrim will make GOTY :celebration:
