Will it run smoothly?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:11 pm

So I used this 'Can You Run It?' website download thingy that anolyzes your computers specs to see if aq specific game will run on your computer, so I did it, and apparently it will run on my pc. So I'm trusting this and am deciding to soon buy the game on the PC. But can I be absolutely sure it will run? And if so, will it run smoothly? My computer is a laptop and I hear that running big games like Oblivion on laptops doesn't work as well as running it on PC.
So if anyone has some insightful statements to make that may ease my doubt to wether it may work or not please post.

Also, since I have played the game on console ever since it came out, should I expect the transition from console to pc make me take a while to get to grips with the new controls? I've always thought movingg around and fighting using keys seems incredibly difficult, but I've never tried it, so will that be difficult for me?

Thanks for the help.

Oh and also I'm not really sure if this information is important (I'm not very technologically competent) but I think it's of reasonable importance.

Hewlett-Packard Presario CQ61 Notebook PC.
AMD Athlon II Dual-core M300 2.00 GHz.
2.75 GB useable RAM.
64-bit Operating System.
Windows 7.

Well after googleing the model it looks to have an ATI Radeon HD 4200 chipset. Which will run the game at low settings, although with some lag. (Future note-you should never use Canyourunit.com, it is a very inaccurate site)

So even on low settings the game will still lag, which, for me anyway, makes any game unplayable if every 2 seconds the whole thing pauses.

It will be playable, I mean you should get about a minimum of about 15FPS on low which is fine to play at. But it will not look like the Xbox version.

But will it run the same when I inevitably decide to put mods on it?

Also, it would be great if you could supply a screenshot of Oblivion on low settings, that would be brilliant.

Depending on what mods you use, I wouldnt place any graphical mods on there. http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33849552

I could always download Oldblivion, would that make it a good deal better? It would improve graphics, but something tells me it would bring the FPS down.

Oldblivion is designed to make the game run on unsupported hardware. It may work on yours to improve graphics (some say that its better then the lowest settings). But still it will not help too much. You just arent going to get amazing results out of that GPU/CPU.

Hmm well I guess I can't really know for sure until I get the game, which I will only do if I know that it won't be dissapointing.

It will play decently enough, but it wont be any miracles. I would just get the game, play with it on low for a while and then when you buy/build a new PC you just buy/build one that has enough power to run the game max. Thats what I did 2 years ago before I got my sig pc.

I may get it cheaply on eBay. I don't want brilliant graphics, I just don't want them to be terrible. All I want is to run mods, so if my laptop will be able to do that, all the better.

Also another quick question, will I be able to run across-the-border mods such as the Elsewyr mod?

Eh you could try it, I used it a bit a while back. It dropped my FPS a bit, so you could always try it and then uninstall it if you dont like the results.
