Can't seem to choose the skill.

Hello all.

I'm having trouble picking my 7th skill, which had led me to remake my character far too much already. As is, I'm using Alteration, Blade, Conjuration, Destruction, Mysticism and Sneak. The ones I keep trying to decide on are Restoration (To heal myself and my summoned minions), Block and Illusion. I know Sneak and Illusion may seem odd to have together, but for some reason Illusion spells appeal to me this time; they didn't in Morrowind, mostly because the sounds they made drove me nuts.

Anyways, the character concept is Plainswalker: A drifter/rogue-ish character who walks the plains of Mundas, Nirn, and Oblivion. (Since she wonders Tamriel, dabbles in Alteration/Mysticism and summons Daedra.)

I'm one of those people that if anything, and I do mean -anything-, is off about the character, I'll restart. Took me almost a year to get a character for Lineage 2 figured out; I had like 30 different types I'd tried, finally settleing on my lovely Abyss Walker.
Opinions, please.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

(Edit)
Decided to go with illusion after seeing some custom spells made by others in conjunction with Conjuration/Destruction. Feel free to reply anyways, as opinions are nice to read. ^^

Well, gameplay wise, all of those sound good...make note that Restoration is pretty much the slowest skill to level, so having it clogging up your Major Skills list isn't that great an idea. I'll tell you why you should have it in the Minor -- although you will use it to heal yourself and your allies, with Alteration you can use shield spells - and defence is the best offence in my opinion. Also, if you level the Minor Skill of Restoration ten times each level, and then level Destruction once or so, you will get the +5 boost to Willpower (I think. Check the wiki to be sure though).

Sneak and Illusion are best friends - casting a Chameleon spell to be able to move around without being seen, or invisibilty is awesome, and the ability to trick and beguile people will come in handy, and fits your tricky little character.

Blade and Block are hard to level - Blade more so than block, you need to work hard on Blade to get anywhere with it, and seeing as you are more of a magic-based player, I'd reccommend ditching block. Blade will help keep you alive, when you run out of Magicka, say, but you could also want to play around with something like Athletics, or Mercentalism.

Conjuration, Destruction, Alteration are all good choices and I reccommend you keep them....I'm not keen in Mysticism so much though - it can be a bit of a useless one.. but you might want it for RP-ing. Otherwise, I'd throw in Light armour, because you'll be wearing that often to cast good spells. That, or Alchemy -- it's still your choice. I'll elaborate at them -

Light Armour will protect you when you get hit, because even if you do have shield spells, at some point you'll be flustered and take a hit - and a weak mage character can die with just a few hits.

Alchemy will allow you to make potions for healing or stat boosting and poisons for your back-up dagger. There are lots of threads about the benefit of Alchemy too. I've chosen this one for you below.

So, in summary:

Marishk's Plainswalker - the BAugustus edition
Alteration -- For shield spells and opening locks
Destruction -- Destroy those in your path.
Conjuration -- Conjure up Daedra to protect you.
Sneak -- You are the essence of stealth - enemies won't even hear you coming.
Illusion -- Beguile those around you, cast light where none exists and pierce the night with super vision.
Blade -- When it all goes to a pile of poop, fall back on a trusty dagger - and poison it, in sneak mode, for the ultimate kill.
Alchemy -- The natural resources about you can heal you or hinder your enemies

Really, it will come down to the Light Armour or Alchemy for that seventh skill for me. I know I've just reworked all of your skills, but at the end of the day, it is a game and you don't want to get to level 20 and realise halfway through fighting Minotaur Lords that you really needed some armour, or that a poison could have helped you.

I hope that helps you in some way. :D

i actually have both illusion and restoration on my current guy, but if you would rather be stealthy, there are invisability spells for illusion. if you want to fight more i would prolly use restoration to heal/fortify other skills

I usually end up using 11 skills or more on every character because combat is so simple the fights get really repetitive... and since the game doesn't limit what abilities and skills you can use based on what you choose at the start I end up maxing almost everything without trying. Every character of mine starts to feel the same after a while so I never make it far before I start a new one. The only time they are different is at the start which seems counter intuitive and none of them feel like they belong to class despite the game spending so much effort establishing classes in the world. Hopefully Skyrim evolves the skill system so that characters start to become unique as you go along instead of what happens in Oblivion!

Very useful info, B. I like how you gave details for each. I'm revisiting this post since I'm starting again. =/ I'd forgot that heavy armor did something odd to spells, so I need to go look on the wiki again about it. I'd been using bits and pieces of armor as I went, and was liking heavy alittle more. I dunno. I'll hash it all out in time.
Thanks for the replies.
